Looked great on TV and seemed like the crowd was pretty into it from my recollection.

The STUDENTS were not into it until last 5 min. The rest of the crowd seemed fine to me.

Being a student not that long ago I don't see that changing anytime soon unfortunately. When I first started at ODU in 2009 the students were in it but before I graduated it was like it is now. Just like you get some people (non students) who aren't very invested, they just come to see the game, it's the same for some students. Sure they want ODU to win, but they aren't super invested in it. It's probably more a social event than a sporting event to some.

Like it or not, getting the students into it is going to take time. You have to win like we have this year for several years in a row to build that. Think back just a couple years, the student section was empty. At least now they are showing up. If we can maintain and elevate this success, it will happen.

RE: ODU vs WKU
Even though the first half was low scoring, the kids on both sides were giving 100%, diving for loose balls, taking hits, and flying all over the floor. I normally do not care for rock fights, but that was perhaps more entertaining than the 2nd half in general. The students were a little disappointing.

The students played a role in having Bassey miss two crucial FTs near the end of the game. I hope they realize it, and I hope it gives them some motivation to keep it up. I know something like that would keep me coming back

The students and fans really get into the game if it's on National TV. Just check out the NIT (Murray State) Game on ESPN or the Tech Football Game (CBS Sports). People like to get on TV.

Since we can't manage to get on TV for every game we might as well hire fake crew and Camera. You know what scratch that. Since our in house Camera crew and streaming folks are horrible throw that extra money into hiring better crew and then do the fake TV. 01-lauramac2

The NIT game might be an outlier. I believe that those home NIT games were all general admission. That changes the fan dynamic of the Ted.

Best crowds I've seen on TV in recent memory.

Seems forever ago. If trey, Ahmad, and BJ were all together right now, unstoppable.

It was crazy loud when he was at the line. I remember thinking at the time it was on par with the end of the vcu game.

The students were sitting the entire time, usually when the greeks come out they at least have a small pocket standing in the first few rows, but that last few minutes when the Ted was standing and getting loud was fantastic. I still don't understand why the cheerleaders/student/band don't make a single peep while we're playing defense, on many defensive possessions throughout the game...

X was incredible. He caught fire and didn't look back. I was a little concerned when WKU's #11 (I think that's what his number was) couldn't miss at the end of the game but we ended up pulling it off. I'll take an ugly win over a pretty loss any day. On to UTSA!
Really? I got the complete opposite feeling the entire game.

There were a few pockets of time where it was dead, cheering only coming from a made basket or a good defensive rebound. There were many defensive possessions where no one was cheering (a few people here and there doesn't count to me) including the cheerleaders and students. The last 10 minutes of the game most fans were all in on every possession, standing and being loud, that's what I was referring to. I had to convince my Navy friends to stay the whole game because they weren't feeling it, and told me the last few minutes made the whole thing worth it. I wasn't taking a jab at us the fans, I just felt the energy was a bit flat most of the game, and it could have come from the play on the court being a defensive slugfest for most of the game, I don't think that was an inaccurate observation

Unfortunately, unless their fraternity is hosting a greek day like that day, I feel like most of them don't care enough to. I hope I'm wrong (then again unless we go to the NIT we only have one home game left), when they got into it, they really brought it. I just hope it doesn't take the DJ ask Big Blue to make them stand up this time

That is just how the TED is nowadays, unfortunately. There have been very few times where we get the crowd making noise during defensive plays in the first half (actually, I only remember one game, and it was when the 'group' section behind the basket was full).

Really, the TED crowd only gets into it after the under 4 min timeout when it's close. This is the new norm. Luckily the crowd was engaged earlier for this game. The crowd is still recovering from the 5 win season. It's trending up but it's still not like how it was back in 2010.

That's fair, and that's what I have come to understand since the 5-25 year. I guess my first 2 years at ODU spoiled me when we went to back-to-back NCAA's and the Ted was the best I've ever seen it. I really hope it gets back to it one day.

And hey, at least we regularly fill up the Ted, unlike some of our conference mates. If there is an opportunity to get loud, we get LOUD

And those 2 years didn't even compare to the Ted in the 04-07 timeframe with the jean vest guy, lines of drunk students forming and wrapping around the Ted 2 hours before the game, live concerts and bbqs outside, and baiting opposing coaches into technical (including getting Seth Greenburg tossed out of a game). 09-11 at the Ted were great relative to current crowds, but you have no idea what you missed. The atmosphere began tanking when Dr. Runte walked away and smartphones probably accelerated the process.

Here are a few reasons for the decline. Smartphones is a nationwide problem.

1. 5 win season, followed by 17 win season
2. Changing conferences and playing strangers from Texas and Florida
3. No national relevance in 8(?) years
4. Disbanding the monarch maniacs
5. Killing the f* em up chant
6. Getting rid of free "X" for whenever the team wins with "Y" points
7. Putting a price on beer in the blue room
