Toledo, Best Recruiting in the MAC
I agree with you on the weeknight games but what's the reason for low attendance on weekend games in great weather against a P5 opponent. I literally fly from the East Coast to attend a few games each season only to see a half empty stadium. It's unbelievable disappointing. But, Coach Hammock gives me hope that he'll reenergize our fanbase.

An enrollment drop of over 7,000 students certainly doesn’t help.

That's part of it but I think the warmer weather in Texas, cali, Florida breeds better athletes. Train outdoors year round.

Toledo has good connections in Florida and is in one of top states for football recruiting too.

I cant even imagine the revenue loss for that amount of students. Ouch!

Every game at WMU follows same script. Get down by 10 early and spend rest of game making miny spurts but never closing the gap

Just FYI for you two gentlemen and BDB5yp -- who says: "Gotta love reporters that don’t fact check." -- this Nick person is not a "reporter" but a blogger. Although bloggers are now a dime a dozen, you would think people would stop caring about some miscellaneous opinion, the exact value of recruiting stars, pre-season polls, etc. However it's also not surprising that whenever one of these not-worth-quoting types says something less than flattering about the Huskies, posters on here are quick to dismiss them. What is surprising is if you connect to this "Nick" person, he has NIU connections.

An enrollment drop of over 7,000 students certainly doesn’t help.

People forget that this ESPN deal has destroyed the fan base slowly over a 10 year period. People are not buying season tickets anymore because of it, and thus even the Saturday games are poorly attended now. ESPN deal had been long enough now where we are getting close to have lost an entire generation of fans

It didn't help when we had more than a decade of complete crap OOC schedule at home.

The Illini use to draw between 50,000-60,000 a game at the beginning of the decade.
It's now down below 40,000.

Hell, I attended a game at Champaign in the 80s that drew 78,000 — an alltime record. Almost literally bumped into Keith Jackson. Unforgettable. Things really have changed for the Fighting Illini ...

Probably a mistake to go stand in the middle of this, but it's a slow day.

Anyway, there seems to be a lot of attention on what's wrong with everything. How about trying to keep the excitement level up for the launch of the THammock coaching era? Can we sustain it through fall?

Opener is against Illinois State, which could be a nice draw if promoted. Their enrollment is up or steady. Lots of in-state families, students, alumni to draw from. Can there be an ISU tailgate area set aside? And how about one for NIU students, BTW?

Not really. The effect is cumulative. After 10 years of that we've lost fans. They won't show up now no matter who we play.

However, we did get more than 4,000 more people for Utah than we did for CMU just a week later. BC that was not the case, but it was also a Friday night game instead of Saturday. Had comparable attendance to EIU, but 4,000 more than the next 3 home games.

BC and Utah games were poorly attended because we have no season ticket base from a decade of the espn deal. No one can question that anymore
