RE:ECU forced to replace premier 2019 home game against VT with 2nd FCS, William &...
IF any are interested in a different perspective, I offer you this tidbit from an ECU fan site:
.
Quote:Fast forward to the hurricane. We communicate with their athletic administration that we want to cancel over the natural safety concerns. They respond by saying ok but let’s wait another day to see what happens. Officially it’s their call to make and to announce (it is their contracted home game) in a press release which they coordinate with us. But again protocol is they they take the lead just as we would for our home games.
Meanwhile unknown to them we’ve already decided we are not going to play and we make arrangements to send our equipment truck to Florida which they find out about on social media. Not only is that bad form, it may approach breach of contract on ECU’s part. Of course their AD looks like a bad guy for complaining publicly as the narrative is ECU is acting in the best “safety interests of our student athletes”. What is not as well reported is that their AD was working on hotel arrangements and practice facilities for our football team so that they could get out of Greenville have a place to go, play the game if possible and have a place to stay in preparation for traveling to our next game. In addition they were working with their contracted travel firm to secure a flight on their contracted charter carrier to fly our team out of Roanoke to Tampa. Most people don’t know that their administration was trying to help facilitate all of this. Then they see on Twitter our equipment truck is on it’s way to Florida before even ECU (violating proper protocol) releases to the press that we are canceling the game. (Tech officials clearly didn’t have an appreciation for how broke our athletic department was which is why we were busing our kids on a 10+ hour road trip from Greenville to Tampa.)
Fast forward to our joint press release with NC State that we have scheduled a “make up game” at the end of the season. I’m read that Tech wanted a conditional game assuming they were in a position to qualify for their 26th straight bowl appearance. We of course wanted a sure thing so we did our deal with State as it was guaranteed to be played and they were paying more money. Again I’m told that Tech athletic officials read about this on social media and not directly from ECU.
So all in all whoever was making these decisions within the ECU athletic department has probably burned all the bridges between us and Virginia Tech.

Emails between the two schools, obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, confirm that this is inaccurate, pretty much in its entirety.

Ok so a VT fan posing to be a ECU fan on an already lunatic fringe cult site. Great credibility.

Cooper asks Virginia governor to help out dispute between ECU & Virginia Tech
Quote:Governor Roy Cooper is asking his counterpart in Virginia to encourage Virginia Tech officials to work on a fix involving the dispute with East Carolina University.
Virginia Tech has canceled football games in Greenville for 2019, 2023 and 2025, in apparent retaliation for ECU canceling its trip to Blacksburg last year as Hurricane Florence approached the coast.
Cooper said he called Governor Ralph Northam and asked him to encourage Tech officials to work on a resolution "that keeps this important rivalry alive without unfairly penalizing ECU for the storm".
"As North Carolina prepared for Hurricane Florence, I urged residents across our state to stay off the roads and prepare for this devastating storm. Canceling a major college football game means lost revenue, but the safety of players and fans should come first. ECU made the responsible decision and this dispute should be resolved without making Pirate Nation bear additional costs from Hurricane Florence," said Cooper.
Hurricane Florence killed 43 people in the state and caused an estimated $17 billion in damage.
Something tells me the Virginia governor will have no problem with them aborting the rest of the games.

Maybe ECU could replace those Virginia Tech games with the University of Guadalajara?

Better option than a second FCS team. Don't you think so?
We needed a home game. ACC schools are to elite to travel to an AAC school.
Also, and I apologize about focusing too hard on the tiny details here, both of them have 12 games scheduled. ACC teams play 3 OOC and 9 conference games when they are not playing Notre Dame.

Got it, I should have dug a little deeper into the full schedule... A for Effort?
Actually the UNC/Wake Forest Game is a scheduled Non-Conference home and home series, Wake travels to UNC in 2021. They got special permission from the ACC to play this game due to the fact they only play each other once every 6 years.
The ACC plays 8 conference games, 6 against your division, 1 anchor game against the other division UNC plays NCSU every year, while Wake Forest plays Duke. The final game changes every year and is a rotational game against the other division, UNC will not play a conference game against Wake Forest until 2022.

Fair enough, they play an in conference out of conference game when they are not playing Notre Dame.
