Seems a little ridiculous since VT themselves will also be playing 2 FCS opponents (Furman & Rhode Island) now that they've backed out of this game. Really unfortunate for a lot of reasons but particularly in light of the newly renovated and expanded DF stadium.

ECU has historically had some of the toughest OOC schedules in nation but the 2019 campaign will be as follows:

@ NCSU
Gardner Webb
William & Mary
@ODU

On the bright side this should help in the effort to get to 6 wins but per NCAA rules, ECU will likely need to win 7 now to go bowling. I believe we could petition if stuck at 6 wins and perhaps we'd get consideration since this was out of our control. Obviously, VT's SOS & bowl eligibility will be affected as well.

The Gardner Webb game was supposed to be South Carolina in Greenville. USCe cancelled so they could play the holes in Charlotte. Moved the game off to 2021, although we are supposed to go back to Columbia, yet again, in 2020.

South Carolina could've been a winnable game (yes, I said it). Mo would've beaten them in Columbia in 2016 if not for 3 red zone turnovers.

well ECU is set up for a big rebound... 3 W's already locked in. UConn is a year away from competing with any teams in the American..

FWIW---I think FBS teams with 6 wins, 2 of which are FCS, are the first alternate for bowl qualification. So, even if ECU just gets 6 wins, they have a decent chance of still getting a bowl as we have been short 6 win teams several years in this bowl cycle. A 6 win ECU would be ahead of all 5 win teams in that scenario.

First game we ever scheduled as a program was with Virginia Tech. They dropped us like a hot plate when it was announced that we were going to be FBS by the year we were scheduled to play. They seem very schedule fickle.
