What is this places obsession with Ron Zook lol

Was known as one of the better recruiters in all of college, knows Midwest and is unemployed after the Packers changed staff.

Miami Area. Just don't bring any recruits here next week.

His resume is a bit thin. LBs or Safeties coach, maybe. Coached LBs at Buffalo and Safeties at Liberty.

After looking at the Defensive openings/current hires and reading the press release by NIU, anyone else getting a Co-DC vibe?

Pure speculation, but to me it seems like Coach Hammock may be trying to reel in a "big fish" as DC and perhaps if he can't then the first two Defensive Assistant Coaches (Wimberly and Gigli) may be named Co-Defensive Coordinators. Or maybe one of them is along with the main DC yet to be hired.

Hammock Adds Gigli, Wimberly to NIU Defensive Staff

Definitely not going NFL to coordinator in the MAC. He can get half million as a position coach at bama.

Yep. And he played his college ball at Alabama A&M, so that's more "southern" connections.

We need someone with strong Chicago ties. There is a lot of talent in the city. It might be raw because of resources but their is talent.

You cant go to the "next level" without southern talent at your skill positions. Sure there is talent in Chicago but we should have natural ties in Chicago as is.

Just keep the mix going. Hit Florida, Georgia and Alabama for skill position players, Wisconsin and Minnesota for linemen, northeast Ohio and western Pennsylvania and finally Chicago proper and the suburbs for a little bit of everything. Spread yourself as well as you can and keep on getting results. And having a first-team Academic All-American at the helm will help ensure the graduation rate remains high and that the recruits are of good character.

Again, maybe utterly meaningless and them just wanting to keep up with a program they see on the trail that they're buddy took a job at.

There's speculation among SDSU fans that Eck will replace Eidsness as OC.

Anyone know what the OL Coach position pays? Reportedly, Eidsness was set to make $93k this year (assumption being that was a raise from last year) as SDSU OC/QB Coach before taking NIU job. Eck would likely be promoted to OC/OL Coach for roughly that same salary.

Looks like Tripodi was making $103,000. Throw in not having to live in South Dakota, and working in FBS, it's at least a conversation. FBS Assistant Coach Salaries

According to SDSU fans, Eck is making $80k/yr (no state income tax). But as mentioned, he would likely get a raise with the promotion closer to what Eidsness was making.

One argument made by SDSU fans is that staying sets him up as "next in line" for the HC job there but the current HC just signed a 5-year extension. Plus, I don't think that's necessarily true because if Eidsness was still interested you'd think his NIU/FBS experience would only further distance him from Eck.

How did we get him from Buffalo I wonder? I know he has the connection to Hammock but there must be more.

University of Buffalo has to really hate us these days. Steal their O-Line coach, steal their basketball ranking, steal the Mac Championship. Haha
