If he brings that same type of intensity and energy to the program could be a really good hire. Both of the rumored finalists actually seem like they will bring some much needed energy to the program.

I wasn’t excited until I read about how good his recruiting was. I want Kane, but I’m fine with either.
Either one is acceptable. Kane has recent history. Hammock is up and coming. My concern is last 5 years in Pros. He will be the best recruiting HC we have ever had.

I think if you are looking for true stability you go with Kane. If you want to possibly take this program to the next level you go with Hammock, but it’s higher risk. Hammock probably has much more ties around the nation for possible coordinators. And yes the recruiting is a big plus.

I don’t see any reason to believe Hammock would be seen as more a likelihood to take it to the next level as Kane is tbh

Other interesting note on the two rumored finalists as it that neither has made a coaching stop below the FBS level. Quite a contrast to the last head coach who only had experience at the FCS level or lower prior to coming to NIU.

I've always been a fan of Hammock. When hiring and it comes down to the final 2,3 you want to be in a spot where can't miss. Feel confident in both canidates. Our HC's have been excellent recruiters, Carey less than the prior 3. Feel confident Thomas or Kane will both be top recruiters.

Exciting time to be a Huskie football fan. I was initially bummed to see Carey go, but I am now ready for a new beginning. Probably a pipe dream, but I hope this change will get the fan base stirred up a bit and get some butts in the seats next year.

If Hammock is obviously the better recruiter, I'd think you'd have to go with him. I like Kane but Hammock was my second choice behind Canada (QB) because we need to improve the offense.

Doubtful. We won the MACC. This should put butts in seats. Coach does not matter. We need to be undefeated every year then maybe we might break 20k in attendance.

Would love to see the list of coaches that were actually interviewed.

Does it count as an interview if we ask those highest paid coordinators if they have any interest in the NIU head coach job and they say "No, I'll keep my high paying coordinator job"?

My guess is that refers fairly specifically to Matt Canada, who was paid $1M as LSU OC in 2017.

I like Hammock but would be happier if he had at least coordinator experience. Coming back to college after the nfl in this situation is difficult. Not talking about the Sabans of the world. Pj has been one of only a few successful coaches to come to this level from the nfl.

RE: New Coach Discussion
What do you think the new head coach will get? I assume it will be more than Carey's latest. We got a bargain on Carey. Carey knew his only option for a big payday was moving out. The only other option for him for a bigger payday was to become an OC at a big program. There he could make millions but no on was going to take him

I’m the odd ball then, I will be a season ticket holder next year as long as the hire isn’t botched. Last year was first time in years I wasn’t. I didn’t hate Carey but he added zero to my enthusiasm.

Also in regards to who, I agree that I like Canada, Kane, and hammock. All else equal I worry that hammock has the least to lose if the team fails to win as he can go back to the NFL easily. Whereas if Kane or Canada fail their stock suffers
