So if Nick Saban or Urban Meyer came knocking on that door and maybe they had past experience with Toledo you would say no as well?

He was Mizzou’s DL coach who was able to churn out 4 first round NFL defensive linemen during his tenure at MIZZOU along with Michael Sam. Then went to Miami where they led the nation in sacks and fourth it total tackles before becoming the DL/Associate HC at Bama. Stop it.

Good, if you don’t like it that means it’s the best hire they could make.

I have no doubt that will be the hire. The Alabama connection is a done deal

Nothing I guess. Once you get down an Alabama track with Frazier it's over. Hopefully he will be a good fit, just dont trust Frazier at all

He’s been at Bama one year. If you don’t want a guy who has coached at blue blood universities and has had unheralded success that understands how the most successful programs in the country operate, that’s your own issue. Also, who the heck wouldn’t want to leverage a relationship with ALABAMA. Are you kidding?

Joel Quenneville! He's a legend!

Fred Hoiberg? Tom Thibodeau? Lessor legends.

Why limit ourselves to only football coaches! :)

Caution about people with blue blood connections though. They haven’t had to deal with the challenges of a midmajor program. If you talk to fans of the have schools, they go nuts if they play an away OOC game. I like guys that have had to work for it. Not saying it wouldn’t be a good hire but will face challenges that might be unexpected.

In saying that, I’ve been hearing Hammock.

We had a whole week to pony up money to keep a guy 4-2 against the B1G. Everyone must’ve been on vacation.

Wonder if Sam Pittman is interested at all. Is still considered one of the better recruiters in all of football and has coached here twice.

Hey - all comments about each other aside here - wouldn't a relationship with a southern coach be a big advantage for us in recruiting from the south? I think we've done well in the past with southern recruits. Great skills.

And on another completely different topic, is there a rule of thumb as to how long this coach search will take? My guess is weeks, but does anyone have a more informed thought?

And will we loose recruits and players due to this? Can freshman recruits now change their mind and switch schools? I don't know what the rules are here - anyone?

RE: HC PICKS - My List
The thing I value more than anything else is knowledge about NIU and how we operate be it a former player or coach. Canada, Kane or Hammock are better fits for this program than the outsiders. Coach U seems like Carey 2.0 in terms of not yet being ready for a HC gig but is in the same circumstances as Carey was when he was hired.

I don't know enough about X's and O's to comment on that but this program is at a point where we shouldn't reach for an unknown and take a flyer on some guy without any NIU ties when other options are available.
