Nah, he'd come back to Toledo, his first stop as a head coach, because he still feels badly about leaving us for the NFL after that one, 9-2 season.

Canada is a pass. Many excellent choices would be available, including many people we have never heard of. NIU is good job and will not lack for quality canidates.

RE: Temple eyeing Rod Carey
It would be nice to hire someone who runs a high-flying offense, like Dino Babers did at BG and now at Syracuse. Someone who comes from the Houston, Texas Tech, Baylor pedigree of offensive philosophy. We need some assistant coaches who can recruit the south. We got away from that the last few years under Rod Carey. We need speed at the skill positions and someone who can recruit and develop QBs. The last three years of QB play at NIU has been tough to watch.

Thank you, it was time he moved on. He plateaued here and we need a new offensive philosophy and direction. I just didn't see Carey ever leading NIU to 10+ win seasons and his postseason performance left much to be desired.

They would have easily won 10 games this year if they didn't have one of the toughest schedules in all college football.
You are almost on MD level when it comes to discussions on NIU's football coaches.

Sagarin rated our schedule 92nd overall. You think that's one of the toughest schedules in all of football? The MAC was bad this year.

If that's true, looks like Carey will never beat another MAC team with a winning record in accordance with Temple tradition.

RE: Temple eyeing Rod Carey
I think NIU fans are silly for being happy seeing Carey leave. How many MAC Championships and Division Titles has he brought? The other MAC teams dream of having Carey. Certainly WMU would've traded Lester for him. I guess I can see he wasn't taking the program to the next level, but at the same time nothing wrong with the level they were at. Be careful what you wish for.
Meanwhile, I'm not convinced he'll work out at Temple, if only because he's going up against the Houston's, Directional Florida's, Memphis's, Cincinnati's, etc. Carey seems like someone who can maintain success. But can he build it?
So how does this shake up the MAC? Certainly opens the door for Eastern or Toledo to win the Division, would think also helps out Ohio and Buffalo if they win the East, not having to face Carey.

I totally understand this train of thinking from the outside. If you watched these games for NIU and followed them, I think you would understand the frustration. He is not a good football coach. NIU was headed toward a few rebuilding years the next few seasons anyway with or without Carey. I think most are just optimistic this rebuild will begin with someone who might be able to fix this broken and dysfunctional offense.

People have been thinking NIU's going for a few 'rebuilding' years for a while now, still hasn't really happened. At this point I'll believe it when I see it, with or without Carey.
I do somewhat get the frustration. I'm a fan of a few pro teams that consistently make the playoffs, and that's good because it certainly beats staying home, but at the same time, it gets stale.

What happened is that the rest of the MAC dropped to same extent as NIU, so in essence delaying the rebuild. Looking at the talent NIU returns next season, it is alarmingly thin and probably as thin as it has been since 2008 period. It will take NIU at least a few years to get back on track.

These comments are not reflective of the entire NIU base.
