I think Carey is fantastic for NIU. Hopefully your AD ponies up and acts like a University that wants to make it big-time in Division I collegiate athletics. Come on, Temple?? Garbage program.
Dekalb to downtown Philly is some major culture shock.

I doubt that happens, since no other MAC school has ever ponied up P5 money.
Be careful what you wish for NIU, you just might get it.

The offer WMU had on the table for Fleck after the Cotton Bowl was as close to P5 money as I've ever seen in the MAC. I believe it was 2 mil per year for X years.

Minnie still outspent us though. And even if the offer was equal, couldn't keep an upward-mobility HC from the bright lights of the B1G.

Yep. Despite poor post-season performances (which is a virus across all MAC schools not named Ohio), I still don't understand how you'd want to rid yourself of a coach who has brought you so many MACC appearances.

The lights aren't always brighter. Minnesota is a combined 5-13 in conference play despite playing in a extremely weak Big Ten - West division. If he doesn't start winning more games in conference, he's going to end up on the hot seat very soon.

Fans at times can be dumb. There were literally multiple fans on Akron's board who wanted Dambrot gone because his 3-6 record in MAC Championship games wasn't good enough. Failing to realize making 9 MAC championships games in a 13 year span is an accomplishment in itself.
Temple can have him, please take him!

Give us our buyout money and we can hire someone who knows how to run a competent offense and doesn't get blown out every year in the postseason.

Sure, unless he’s not as good as Carey, and that’s something you can’t know in advance. You’d actually have to get lucky to find someone who could match Carey’s MAC record, and if he can’t, he won’t be in a good position for the post-season anyway. Hoping your next coach is better than your current better-than-average-but-not-great coach is taking a big risk. Of course, it’s not the fans call anyway. Really, it’s Carey’s call if Temple decides they’re serious.

We aren't world beaters with Rod, look at most of Rod Carey's wins and probably 90% of them are against teams without winning records. It's not that hard to beat a bunch of bad teams every year and get blown out by the good ones.

I took the below off the NIU board:

Oh, I think I could make a case opposing that view, maybe tainted by several decades of KSU fandom.

Good luck, but some teams go from success to being one of those bad teams the better teams beat. No one’s immune.

From the rumor mill I heard from, it was $30 million over 10 years (super Long contract). PJ on TV said he took "lower pay" to go to Minnesota, which was true per year, but overall contract $$ would be. WMU had a "safer" contract for the long-haul. But it looks like PJ's going to survive @Minnesota for at least a while.

Nawww, won't happen. :) However, I could see if Temple gets a lot of $$ behind them, to offer Carey a little more $$ to be a Coordinator under some new HC they get who worked with him before or something. I don't know why Temple would Really want him as a HC, unless there's ties to the Temple Admin who have worked with him before or something. Not a good move for Temple if they're wanting him as a HC.
Keep in mind that Fleck had a bad first season at WMU and was middle-of-the-pack the couple of years after that. I imagine that he's been recruiting like crazy and playing a lot of young players, shying away from the old guard who were part of the whole controversy that led to the firing and his hiring.
Get it done Temple
Temple sure has the perfect G5 formula: get two head coaches hired away in three weeks, collect buyouts of $6.5 mil. Hats off!
BREAKING: Alabama fires Nick Saban and has reached out to Kent State......One can dream right 03-wink
Quote:Matt Canada: Sources tell FootballScoop the former Maryland interim head coach is under consideration for the Indiana offensive coordinator job, but is also very interested in the Northern Illinois head coaching search should Rod Carey leave for Temple

If our offense was half as good the last three years as those Canada-led NIU offenses it would be an improvement!

Carey keeps sticking with terrible QBs to the point that we now have a bottom 10 offense.
