LSU fans will show up regardless. This Fiesta Bowl might remind me of the Oklahoma-UConn one years ago. It was a sea of red and I’m sure it’ll be all purple and yellow in three weeks.

The Fiesta is the perfect bowl for a Western G5 though.

OU is snowbird territory, Midwestern in that respect. LSU is swamplands, never known LSU to travel beyond the South.

A reality of US migration, there are few Southerners in the West. You will find large numbers of Midwesterners and Northerners. Sooners in the West share that with Hoosiers, Badgers, Illini, Hawkeyes, Huskers, Buckeyes and Wolverines you find everywhere here (also a large greater NYC contingent). So any school from those regions not only has their traveling band, they also have a local population of fans who will come. But that doesn't exist here for SEC or other southern schools.

Besides Boise State (and Indy BYU), no western G5 has a fan base of any significance to travel. That said Fresno State vs Arizona State in a pre-Christams Las Vegas (UNLV's dreadful stadium and before most people go on winter vacation) is going for more than twice the price of the Fiesta Bowl.

I do think the Fiesta Bowl will fill up, but it will include a large number of indifferent locals who bought to tickets from some gas station or supermarket promotion. It's just not anything to get all excited for if you are and LSU fan, to play some G5 school in the desert. Like whatever.

Maybe not, but IIRC, in November 2006 when there were reports that LSU might be going to the Rose Bowl, they officially pre-sold more than 40,000 tickets at around $140 each, and again that was without being announced for the bowl - and they ended up in the Sugar Bowl.

Was at (by pure accident because I was doing New Years in Tempe) the 2005 Fiesta Bowl: Utah vs Pitt
The little boys (Utah) packed the place
The big boys (Pitt) brought 0 fans

Fantasyland quo sure does like to cherry pick. Peachbowl sold out in record time last year........ but lets ignore that fact. Lets try to stay in reality.

None of that mattered when Ohio State played Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl a few years ago.

Also: Faraway suburb? Would ticket prices on the secondary market be 10 times higher if the game was played in Tempe? No.

It’ll often take 70-90 minutes from Tempe/Scottsdale/Mesa/etc to Glendale’s Westgate district for games. It’s a faraway suburb from that standpoint because it deters a significant amount of locals’ desire to attend. Thus, a bowl game in Glendale won’t carry that local grassroots support you see in comparable bowls.

It's hilarious watching UCF buffoons trip all over themselves. The Peach Bowl didn't sell out last year in "record time", lowly UCF sold out its allotment in record time - for UCF, not for anyone else. And the Peach Bowl selling out is no big deal, it sits in the heart of SEC country and always features an SEC team, unless its a playoff. IIRC it has sold out the last 10 years. It sold out this year before the teams were even announced, LOL.

The Peach wanted *nothing* to do with UCF, and passed them off to the Fiesta Bowl like a Hot Potato. Couldn't dump them out west fast enough. 07-coffee3

How did USF do with there NY6 Bowl allotment?.... oh wait.... USF has never sniffed a NY6 bowl... or even a conference championship.

USF has lost 5 straight games and is playing a CUSA team in the Gasparilla Bowl. Even though the bowl is in Tampa, I am quite sure you won't even have 20k "butts in seats" for this game. 03-2thumbsup

Yes, the Peach passed over UCF for 2 schools who were bluebloods before UCF even fielded a football team. This is reaching blind hate territory.

Well that's about a buck higher than the regular season cost on the family plan at UCF. But it's about $63 under what L.S.U. would charge for a G5 team on their home schedule.

This is precisely why the Big 12 didn't expand! Capiche! Oh, and by the way, it's exactly why a P5 doesn't do home and home's with schools that seat maybe 50,000, and don't charge enough for their home tickets to make the trip worthwhile. It has zero to do with anything but money! Nada!

It's just not a good pairing in general, imo. It's not the playoff, and there's no local team. It's a tough sell.

agree, put the same 2 teams in Sugar, Peach, or even Citrus bowl and you have a great crowd.

Anecdotal, but SC @ UCF 2013 was one of the toughest tickets I've ever tried to get. Think we ended up paying like $80 apiece for endzone seats. Gainesville, Knoxville, CoMo, Nashville, and Oxford were all cheaper. Athens is always the toughest but that's a quasi-rivalry game and SC brings a ton of fans.

Yes, those were the obvious plain as day matchups and locations.

But, it's also plain as day that the Cotton, Peach, and Fiesta have an understanding with the CFP to treat the G5 school as a hot potato that nobody gets stuck with two years in a row. And the Peach had no desire to host UCF again.

As I said, this isn't aimed particularly at UCF. Had it been Boise or any other G5, the Peach would have had the same attitude. But the notion put forward by some UCF fans that the Peach wanted UCF again this year is ridonculous. The last team they wanted was UCF, which is why the Fiesta has them.

Silly o-town at it again: he claims Peach Bowl sold out in 'record time' last year with zero evidence - apparently he has confused UCF selling out its allotment to a bowl game in record time with the bowl doing so.

But feel free to post link saying Peach sold out in record time last year. You've presented no facts to back that up despite allegedly valuing facts.

As for this year, it doesn't matter why the Peach sold out before teams were announced, the fact is it did, and as I said, the Peach selling out is zero kind of big deal because it routinely sells out, it's a rare thing when it doesn't.

What everyone with a brain knows is that the reason UCF is in Tempe this year is because the Peach had no desire to have UCF again this year.

I mean you are green with envy... if only USF could get to a NY6 bowl...but year after year...after dreary year...USF has not been up to the job.

Trolling about ticket prices is some weak sauce. 03-lmfao

Fantasyland quo sure does like to cherry pick. Peachbowl sold out in record time last year........ but lets ignore that fact. Lets try to stay in reality.

07-coffee3

Yes, the Peach passed over UCF for 2 schools who were bluebloods before UCF even fielded a football team. This is reaching blind hate territory.

You don't seem to grasp the issue here: I responded to UCF fans who boasted that the Peach *wanted* UCF again this year. That's not true, they obviously didn't, and you agree with me. So if I'm hating, you are too. But FWIW, while I don't think you are a blind hater, for an NIU fan, you do seem to have a big hair up your arse about what happens to UCF, why, I don't know. 07-coffee3
