This will be dependent on how deep they have to go. They just keep pounding on them until they have a predetermined small movement per hammer blow. At the moment I'm a little worried, based on their animated construction video they show all the piles being installed and starting on pile caps by the first week of January. That means all 600 and some piles have to be installed in the month of December. Lets say the actual number is 630 and they have 30 days to do it to make the math easy. That leaves 21 piles per day. Currently there are only three pile drivers on site, so to maintain schedule each would have to do 7 per day. Not sure if they can consistently hit that, if they can hit it at all. Certainly there's a CE on here that had to count blows as part of a class or internship that can provide input on how many piles can usually be set in a day in that area.

That's what my co-worker used to do. Count the pile blows with a clicker. Soon as it was x number per foot he gives the signal to kill it. Kind of crazy that's how they still do it with modern technology.

Are they digging out the foundation on the east side near the student section? Kinda wish I went to ODU for CE now!

It would be kind of neat if an engineering dude can give us a play-by-play of the project in layman terms.

If I had more time to follow the project closer than I totally would. But I can always drop in and make comments

Harry is to general. I'd love a day by day explanation of what we're seeing on the cams. What are they doing in the north east corner? It looks like they are building a frame to pour concrete into. Is this how you create a footing?

Anyone see all the wood in the ground on the east side corner close to the student section? Is that for drainage?

Yes, they are installing formwork for the concrete footings. The general process is excavation of the footing, geotechnical testing of the bottom of the footing (any deficiencies to soil conditions at the bottom of the footing are corrected, if needed), installation of rebar, third-party special inspection of reinforcing steel, placement of concrete (special inspection firm takes samples of concrete pour for lab testing), cure, strip forms, rebar caps (safety)... formwork relocates to next excavated footing section, etc.

Now that would actually be an awesome idea for Ted to channel his excitement. Can you imagine him doing the commentary on this thing going up? Especially in time lapse. The dress is in the bag!

Starting pile caps early, that makes me feel a little bit better.

Yes. It also looks like they may be starting some spread footings on the East side, but it's hard to tell on the WebCam now that I look closer.

JMU certainly has one for him. From what I was told he..... was instrumental in getting GA $ for both JMU's new stadium and new "Convocational" / Basketball Arena. Yet the GA requires ODU to fund with private donations.

We need more alumni in the general assembly, plain and simple.
