He feels like heat after this year. They know next year is an important year and the reasoning for going for short term JUCO fixes. I bet we attack the grad transfer market as well. We can get a bowl game next year with a competent defense. But, they need to develop WRs and find a C and RT.

Have we ever really had a competant defense in the 10 years of the program though. What makes everyone think it will suddenly happen next year.

The closest we ever had to a peer competitive defense was probably 2011.
Even that one was poor vs the pass, and an outside rush/option but at least it was able to stop the interior rush.

We had a ~60th ranked defense in 2016, which is really good for our level. In 2017, it was 88, which is good enough to get to a bowl game with a decent offense.

We dont need a great defense to make a difference next year; just be top 85ish.

We had a ~60th ranked defense in 2016, which is really good for our level. In 2017, it was 88, which is good enough to get to a bowl game with a decent offense.

We dont need a great defense to make a difference next year; just be top 85ish.

2016, while not in our control, saw us lose badly to the only teams we played with winning records. IMHO most teams stats during that season should be taken with a grain of salt.

ODU had 22 Seniors on this season's team and went 4-8 with them. ODU is losing many of their top players - Duhart, Fulgham, Ximines, Cox, Harper, etc. On top of that, they have historically had defensive issues in spite of routinely firing defensive coaches. I don't see where your optimism for next season is coming from.

Strength of schedule is factored in.

FWIW, 60 is typically top of the conference. Its just where we are.

We're now 30-31 in the 5 seasons of CUSA with 1 winning season.

Wood is quoted in the VA Pilot article just released that BW is on “solid ground.”

He'd say that regardless. Although I believe him, for now.

I would expect Bobby to be safe for now.

I am so far disappointed in the rhetoric.
For the fans, and especially the donors, we should not be hearing "the kids played hard", "we were just a play or two from winning", "the kids need to execute better", "I am pleased with the effort".

Funny. That's pretty much verbatim for what I said to my wife after the game today both right before and after Bobby came on the radio for his post game comments.

Next year could be a lot worse.
