Getting Word and Atariwa back was huge as well. Word was heavily involved and it was nice to have some fresh legs at DT

Defense was good against a bad offense but did their job so can’t criticize their efforts either.
Very worried about our offense. The lack of consistency against good defenses has been a season long thing. They move the ball at times but hardly any big plays for scores and when we have to get a yard, we can’t seem to make it happen. The offense is pretty good between the 20s but the red zone is a concern. Good thing we have a good field goal kicker.
I'm very concerned too. I feel very strongly that we need to develop some power running rather than zone-blocking running, at least for short-yardage situations. The threat of a dive, sneak, counter, or play-action are much better options when facing a short field.

And we need more designed runs for DiNucci, especially the QB draw. Nothing freezes linebackers better than that threat when you actually use it. We have it in our arsenal and are not taking advantage of it, making opposing defenses look better than they actually are because they have been conditioned to not worry about it.

How about some good ol' fashioned play-action pass bootlegs?

I saw where Sims was kept out due to concussion related symptoms and that's why Brown got the start at WR. I haven't found anything in the wrap ups about the status of Oliver and Tutt, though. McCormick got the start opposite Moreland and neither Oliver nor Tutt appeared in the participation stats.

Dang if he didn't make the best of the opportunity. Of course it helps when the QB is ready and willing to send the ball in your direction.

Anyone notice the long bromance (handshake & hand on shoulder) between MH & Ferrante at the end of the game? Went on for about a minute or so. Must be a lot of respect between the 2.

Houston tends to have lengthier talks with head coaches at midfield if they let him. They're only brief when it's clear the opposing coach is ready to just say, "good game" and quickly blow him off.

I saw that and wondered if Ferrante might be giving him an earful about the last minute touchdown. I think we know why JMU tried so hard to score one more time but also could see how the other team could find it disagreeable. Not saying that’s what happened but I did wonder.

You wonder if DiNucci is being told to hand the ball off more often than not to preserve his body for the playoffs.

It sure does seems he has so many open lanes for 10 yards if he keeps it on a lot of these RPOs

I was thinking the same. Maybe saving it for the playoffs. But, last weekend we really could have used it. We likely wouldn't be behind the eight ball right now.

I felt like they did this with Schor last year. Schor seemed to run a lot more once the playoffs started especially in the close games when it was needed.
I think we all see that a less mobile QB would make us a very average offense. Even with DiNucci we don’t seem to have many designed QB running plays. You look at what has happened to UNH, Maine and Nova this year once they lost their starting QB. I am not sure any FCS program has a strong #2 QB. Many struggle to find a strong #1.

According to this board we have two QBs better than our starter

My thought was Coach Houston taking the intiative to say "hey Mark... that last TD there was to get our guys somore more work on offense. These kids aren't clicking in the redzone so we're just doing trying to work on some things. Hell of a program you have here... give your regards to the missus, see ya later and ... #GoDukes."

Do you really think the coaching staff would come out and say that? It's a pretty obvious problem. What he can do with his skillset to overcome this is shift quickly in the pocket but he has to do so quickly and so far, although he's been elusive, it seems he escapes the pocket after his downfield options don't look good. He's probably an inch taller than Vad Lee or at least the same size but the throwing motion makes him unable to get the ball over.
"qb coaches among us" = postets on this board.
It is obvious and well known, Houston may ad well say it. Nooch's throwing style makes him 5'3".
HAHA..yeah we saw this on the PItt tape and hoping for adjustment...but he's a jake the snake QB...good in some ways, but not sure about deep playoffs with that. Gage looks stronger, better form, can run, and stay in the pocket - if not this year, he is gonna be great next year (way too early prediction prediction)
One of the announcers said DeNucci is an upgrade from Schor. Not Schor about that. I would say it is close overall. Both have/had certain skills better than the other.
Agree, I think they are very similar QBs, with DeNucci being more athletic.

And URI and Elon (although both of them seem to have decent #2s).
