The ballad of Curtis Loew is probably my favorite Skynyrd song.

More southern rock favorites from Marshall Tucker

Whenever I go on a decently length trip with my dad I can always count on rocking out to Marshall Tucker and ZZ Top. Good memories.

Would'a been awesome to see the original lineup in a club when the band was young and hungry...

Posting the original studio and a live version of the song Where Boys Fear To Tread. The band's original drummer just rocked it...

IMO, for me, Smashing Pumpkins is one of those bands like Janes Addiction, Stone Temple Pilots, and a few others that when they stick to hard rock/metal sounding tunes they are great.... when they explore their more artsy side the songs just aren't as good to my ears.

I saw ZZ Top on here. This one song is the wake-up song of my "Monday Morning playlist":

Bad ass return to form. Dark, mysterious, gangster.... good to have new Cypress Hill to listen to.

Ohhh yeah... got this in the mail today as well. Return to form for Eminem. He's best when he's pissed off and/or going insane comical pop culture and culture in general. Much better than Revival on the beats and rhymes level.

Still got that East LA gangster skateboard thrash metal vibe.

Solid rocker...

Someone talk to me about this Chris Stapleton guy and any of the bands he performs with.

I've been catching his stuff on the Lost In Vegas reaction channel on youtube and unless they have managed to pick 4 of his best works the brother got some talent and has a cool blues, country, southern rock feel to his music. I am finding myself having to seek out some of his cds... cause I dig it.

I was a little late to the party on this guy too amigo. Had heard some of his stuff but saw him at Bonnaroo with my youngest son a couple years ago and he’d already hit big then.

Pretty sure he started out as a writer for others and then played in a band before striking out on his own. I haven’t wikied him though. His songwriting is stout as hell.

He’s a Kentucky boy I’m pretty sure. Same as Sturgill Simpson. You need to dig into some Sturgill as well. These are guys that made it without the Nashville Machine behind them. Maybe Chris had more Nashville hookup being a writer. I don’t really know. But Sturgill was totally outside the lines and he made it big too.

There’s a ton of good country out there. And this is country. Not that F’in Nashville country/pop Budweiser, pickup truck, girl in shorts bullllshitt.

Texas has a bunch of guys too. Try Cody Jinks and Ryan Bingham and Paul Cauthen. I love those guys.

I know this song hits the traditional country tropes but I almost stop what I’m doing when this one comes up on the dahbeed playlist.

Funny you mention Sturgill. He's been done about 2-3 times by them as well. The three songs they have done have been hit and miss for my tastes. I won't go bad as I am admittedly not the biggest guy on country music so it would be unfair for me to judge it that way... I just haven't really gotten overly into the 2-3 songs presented to me of his I have heard.

The thing I love about Sturgill is he’s not afraid of changing things up. You listen to his first CD and it’s true Kentucky music. A lot of folks were comparing his voice to Waylon.

By his 3rd CD he has added the Dap Kings on accompaniment. Completely different from his early stuff but I still love it. Then I ran across one he did for HBO where he’s just a damn rocker.

I consider him a generational talent but I’m not so sure how long he’ll be around. I don’t think he loves the touring life if you read between the lines on his music and interviews.

I’ve heard this done by so many different people. Hell, I bet Stink has recorded it. I’d bet money he’s played it. Can’t say I’ve ever skipped over it no matter who did it.

Very interesting read on it.

For PTNC. Not tryna convince you to like Sturgill. Just showing his range.

This is off High Top Mountain his first. When the Waylon comparisons were flying.

Off Metamodern Sounds in Country Music his second.

Off A Sailor’s Guide to Earth.

This is the one he did for HBO in 2016.

RE: OT: CUSA board Music thread (what are you listening to right now?)
This is a song he wrote to/about his first child on his last CD. Sorry for so many but I ended up on one of those YouTube jags and couldn’t stop.

Fun fact. Pollywog is a sailor’s term for someone that hasn’t been across the equator. Sturgill spent a short stint in the US Navy. He was a WestPAC sailor so he references the Far East a lot on this album.

A person that has crossed the equator is a Shellback. I’m a Shellback even though I was not a sailor. I was a Marine on the USS Guadalcanal (a big helicopter carrier....LPH-7) in 1980 when we crossed the equator on the way to the Indian Ocean. Our hostages were still in Iran and we were part of a battle group that did big squares out in the middle of the IO as a ‘show of force’.

That was one hella Med Cruise. After we finished doing squares we hit Mombassa Kenya. Alexandria Egypt. Athens Greece. Barcelona Spain. Naples Italy. Toulon France. Good times were had in those ports.

File this one under "ONLY IN NASHVILLE"......

Last week my wife and I attended a private party/benefit in Franklin, TN, and "Country Music Hall of Fame" singer/song writer Jamey Johnson was the "entertainment" for the evening. (Yeah, I know, right! HAHA!)

Anyway, I took this video with my own cell phone. Near the end, the fans liked his song "You should have seen it in Color" so much, they literally took over the singing and JJ just leaned back, smiled, and listened as the crowd sang his song. It was a hell of a lot of fun. Enjoy!
