Speaking of this, I noticed PSU had mic's for their band last week. For all the talk of the atmosphere there most of it was due to recorded music or the band having a mic.

Having too much piped-in music and less marching band music to me screams "small time".

Old Ladd is ancient, but the PA system's speakers will give GS a battle for which is the loudest. It has to be "painfully louder".

Have you seen all the bands perform live?

Yes. Its been over about a 2-3 year span but have seen them all.

You haven't seen ULM this year. They're bigger and louder. Not up to the high-end level they were in the 70's through the 90's but they're getting there.

I saw Alabama's band Saturday. I'd have to say that they rock. We in the Sun Belt have a long way to go in more than just football. We'll get there. I said Saturday that there is absolutely no difference between Arkansas State and the University of Alabama........other than money and time. It would be cool to see what the Sun Belt schools are like after a few billion dollars and 50 more years.

Any of the big SEC bands (Bama/UGA/LSU/TAMU/etc) blow us away. They are much better than anything we put out there. From the way they choreograph their stand music to respond to every play and the shows they put on, it's just on a different level.

Also the crowd involvement/participation for stuff they do, especially in the stands, is just so awesome and is something I wish more of us could get going.

Marching Bands cant play when the football is in play in College! Southern could have got a penalty.

Plus it very disrespectful to play over the other band. Wait until they get done before playing. It's kind of a Gentleman's agreement between band director not to play while other band is playing.

HBCU bands don't care about rules and unspoken etiquette.

I remember when we played Savannah State a few years ago, the band kept playing during every snap. SSU got penalized so many times for the band playing and not paying attention to the game that our fans started to boo them because they were holding the game up.

I also remember being in high school band and playing MLK High School from Atlanta. We were out on the field doing pregame and the time came to lead the stadium in a prayer and perform the national anthem. Their band blared through the ENTIRE thing. Let me tell you, Hell hath no fury like a hometown hick who can't hear the prayer or the national anthem. It got very nasty very quick.

I am surprised none of our Texas faithful raised the futility of anybody trying to match the Allen, Texas HS band, which has over 800 members (travels in 23 school buses and 3 equipment trucks to away games). They can thickly cover the whole field for pre-game and halftime shows.

Southern Rocks. I wish some of the better HBCU bands would come to Statesboro. Southern Pride would get destroyed though...I say this as a 4 year Southern Pride vet. For that to happen, we’d of course need to schedule an HBCU not named Savannah State or SCState...and to do that, we probably have to show some good will and stop having incidents where racial bs keeps happening aka throwing bottles at HBCU cheerleaders. HOWEVER, I am aware enough to know when you're playing 3x the brass as a classical band, you're gonna be able to play louder. And just cause you're louder doesn't mean you're more talented. It's like comparing apples to oranges almost. Saying that, football is entertainment so give me the HBCU.

Marching bands also aren't supposed to use speakers to help the band play louder, but alas, some schools do that too.

When I was in High School, of the bands for a Little Rock school famously marched into the stadium smack in the middle of the National Anthem. I very much laughed. It was great theater.
