I agree with this, however.....

The history with UH is that we have a 10 minute drive to a FG or a 5 minute drive to pinning them inside the 10.... and they have a 2 play 58 second drive for a 90 yard TD... even if you win all of the above, you can lose badly.

We need TDs, and we need to limit the deep ball. If they have 450+ yards offense, we lose, regardless of the above (unless the turnover margin is egregious like +6).

I think we win special teams, but not sure about either TOP or TOs, especially not with Oliver in the middle disrupting anything and everything. As I said in a previous post, last week's game plan heavy on inside runs has virtually no chance of working against UH. Of course, we'll have to run a certain number of those plays to keep the UH defense honest, but I think our only chance of success will be quick hits around end, with the hope of getting to the edge before Oliver can get there, coupled with VERY quick, short passes (e.g., bubble screens, quick slants)...keeping in mind that any quick passes over the middle risk being knocked down by Oliver.

If the other team is faster you usually don’t rush to the edge...

Hopefully we have extra security in the parking lot this Saturday (I figure since the UH AD made a sophomoric joke about Rice earlier today it's more than fair game for us to retaliate).

(if you don't want to follow the Chronicle link, it's a story about how 22 cars were broken into - and some car windows smashed out - on the UH campus after the campus police passed out a glass breaking device to students earlier this semester).

RE: Rice v Houston **PREGAME THREAD**
For those looking to cling to some optimisim/hope, the recent HRS games have been Rice wins or very close games (06, 08, 10), the games at UH are the ones where we have not been competitive in recent memory and were 'name your score' kind of games (09, 11, 17) and the ones at Reliant were won by Coogs but not name your score kind of games. I can't remember anything in recent memory (last 25 years) where Rice was competitive at Houston but also can't remember anything where Coogs blew-out Rice at HRS. Last blow-out I remember was the Andre Ware Heisman acceptance speech in the Rice Equipment Room in 89.

Coogs do have a history of playing great at home but not a great road team..even if across town or short distance traveled. More talented Coog teams have lost at Tulane last year and SMU (multiple times) in recent years. They do play the game for a reason.

He also said Arizona was going to roll in and get their ass beat. About as classy as can be expected, that’s locker room talk not AD on public record. Going to be funny when we get their hopes up and they go 7-5 again.

We also were in the same conference and the talent gap was much less substantial. Though I didn’t think we’d win in ‘10 and I got to storm the field and touch the bucket so who knows.

Closest game at UH was the 56-48 loss in 2007. The Casey-Dillard-Clement show.

Also, pretty sure that UH whipped our buts at home sometime in the early 90s.

According to USATODAY , Rice is paying Houston $100,000 for this weekend's "guarantee" game (hope you can open table which lists Rice game at the very end).

I keep going back and forth between "yeah we'll get blown out and they'll score at will" and "we'll be better and control the clock to keep the score down". So I'll just split the difference. Official forecast:

UH 45
Rice 10

We're playing at home and we've got one game under our belt. It'll help. There's more to the offense and defense than we saw last week. 42-27, UH

agree... Unleash the Monster...

I've read some critiques of the coverage from last week's game... I really want to see Saturday on that side of the ball..... I almost feel like the coaches came out in press zero against PVAM just to see their guys compete and find out what they "couldn't do". Very interested to see the week 2 plan... I could be wrong... UH might blister the back half and it could be indicative of a glaring weakness...But I definitely want to see for myself
