The national accolades just don't seem to stop.

It is an exciting time - especially after experiencing the doldrums.

The article only refers to Penny's recruiting which has been exceptional by most measures including I would guess yours. The article was not a prediction of next year's record.

Expectations by Tigers fans on this board for next year seem to be somewhere around 3rd in the conference and making the tourney. That's a big improvement on the recent past and not entirely unreasonable. Some sportswriters have put the Tigers as low as 8th and as high as 1st.

Wichita's expectations last year were running away with the conference championship and making a run at the national championship.

We should obtain a fuller perspective of objective media expectations once pre-season predictions generate in earnest. I expect the same pattern of wide variance.

The good news is you only have 3 more months of this till basketball season starts. That is unless (of course) we realize Penny can indeed coach and/or the 2019 recruits start lining up. In that case, the end of Tiger euphoria is TBD.

I think our class will be (using 247's rankings):

James Wiseman, #1

Trendon Watford, #14

DJ Jeffries, #37

CJ Walker, #46

Malcolm Dandridge, #152

If any of those fall through, we also have a good shot with Jaykwon Walton (#60) and Chandler Lawson (#63).

https://247sports.com/college/memphis/Se...l/Targets/
We are not recruiting Chandler. Nor his brother. That's been stated by daddy himself. Penny is distancing himself from that family.

I know. I threw that in as a tribute to a friend who thinks we are. I figured nobody would care enough to mention it, lol.

Bowen is the one who made that decision, but Penny might slip it by if we miss on higher targets, have room for him and Penny tells Bowen it's the only way we can get CJ Walker, for example.

You are confusing recruiting expectations for the Class of 2019 with win-loss expectations for this season. Most Tiger fans are skeptical that we can even make the tourney this year.

It's a throwaway this year. A freebie. Most of us are anticipating much better results for 2019-20. And assuming we hit that class big with several of our targets, even then, we probably are thinking Sweet 16, which would make most happy in Year 2.

Who should Memphis fans post about in basketball threads?

Not to mention, I haven't seen many Memphis fans making predictions about wins this season.

Right now Memphis is favored to get three ESPN five star recruits. James Wiseman, DJ Jeffries, and Trendon Watford. So yes, Memphis recruiting could radically improve the reputation of AAC basketball. And let me add, we're favored to get these recruits not just in the mix.

The AAC will not realize its full potential until Memphis better reaches its potential. It is puzzling reading posts hoping for Tiger failure because a powerful Tiger program is in the self-interest of all AAC members just as a strong UConn, Cincy, WSU, etc helps Memphis.

I'm going to be honest.

I want UC to go 40-0 and be the top dog. If that comes at the expense of Memphis, so be it. As a fan, I don't think I'm off base all that much.

Now if Memphis is playing Kentucky or O$U, I'm all behind Super Penny and his super team.

Hell, everybody in this conference should feel that way. I certainly do. Root for your team first, then for everybody else when playing OOC, since it helps all of us for the conference to be strong.

Penny's recruiting will mean very little to the AAC. Penny winning will mean a ton. Same was true with Pastner.

Just for the record, I was a bit skeptical on the Penny hire, so far it looks like a homerun, but time will tell obviously.
