Impressive showing by the repubes tonight. Looks like they will only underperform by about 17 points and will hold onto a seat they’ve held for 35 years.

It will be interesting to see how it turns out in November.

i'll do it. i live in cincinnati but i'll do it. this region goes from like the wealthy columbus burbs to the foothills of appalachia. that's what npr. if it stretched to nelsonville, well that's most likely a stretch, but i'd consider it then if and when the opportunity presented itself. i reckon i'd cling to the holler. i wonder if my brother in law is voting. he's a solid republican but wary of politics. that's the impression i get

And that is why the Green party has grown, pardon the pun. They got sick and tired of being assumed as Dem votes like they owe them something.

Oh, and the Libertarian Party is one of the oldest and most respected third parties in the country. They nearly exclusively take votes from the GOP.

GOP had a very low turnout. Kind of like when an SEC plays their B squad against a 1-AA team and still wins by 10.

101,566-99,800-1,127.

50.2% for the Republican, 49.3% for the Democrat. 100% of the vote in.

Another "moral" victory for the Democrats. They pour a ton of money and effort in and still fall short. Just like Georgia 6th except that in Georgia, Handel outperformed Trump.

Progressives will use it as a reason to purge mere liberals from the party tickets.

Lol

I can hear CNN/MSNBC/NYTIMES/WAPO... (if the Republican wins) he should have won by 10% the GOP better be prepared for a big blue wave.

And the Green Party continues to grow as a result. I like that pun. I ought to put it on a bumper sticker and sell it to the hippies at the co-op down the road, lol...

That was definitely true for a long time going back to the 1970s, IMHO.

But since looking very closely at the 2016 returns, I honestly have begun to wonder if that’s still true anymore. That may have been a random tangent based on the individual candidates involved, and I’d want to see more data from future elections, in any case. But I think the base Libertarian constituency may be changing, in a way that hurts D’s more than R’s. We shall see.

Marc, serious question here. Do you have a favorite college team ? I would be surprised if someone would keep coming to a college sports site to argue politics without also having a team to support during the season.
