This appears to me like it was taken sometime in the summer of 2016.

They had grass down by the season opener against Baylor at the "front" of the EZF.

I don’t have an answer to your question, but at the time of writing of the linked 2014 article, Rice was the defending champion of C-USA, and Baylor of the Big XII.

According to a good friend of mine in the athletics department, there will be a third tier/concourse on the west side. Take it for what it's worth. The top 20 rows will be occupied by luxury suites and press box. I cannot and will not divulge my source. Have fun.

Interesting. If it comes to fruition, certainly they're talking about taking an existing space and building down for a new 3rd tier of seating. They certainly can't be talking about building new seating above the existing press box. And that would have to be an in-between season type of project.

It would be wonderful if it happens. Building a new elevator(s) would be part of this too, I'm sure.

That’s been a study for at least 5 years. They emailed a bunch of people to get input on how much they’d be willing to pay for club seats, what would be important in a club area etc. I believe the focus was new press box and selling club seats.

Any timeline? I’ll believe it when I see construction start like all Rice athletic upgrades but good news if it actually happens.

Wouldn't this require the entire stadium be brought to current codes? I'm wondering if the project could be completed in an offseason. If HRS is under construction, where would we play?

Would it be realistic to just close off the west for a year and put everyone on the east? It's not like that would even be crowded...

IF we needed a temporary place to play, I'm sure BBVA Compass would be an option. That is where UH played most, if not all, of their games when they were building "Touchdown! East Carolina University" Stadium

As a UH fan, I really enjoyed the game experiences at BBVA.

Interesting. But it will cost a bundle. It might happen, but I can't see it going forward until, a. The team becomes significantly more successful and b. A donor steps up to foot most of the cost.

That’s my view as well. Based on the plans that were presented showing possible scenarios for the suite area I think it only happens after a good run of success.

My understanding was that the suites would be built down from the lower concourse and swallow up the current chair back seats.

From the brief description I had assumed we were talking about part of the upper deck, not the lower. Does anyone actually know or are we all guessing?

The concept offerings I saw had a club area off of the suites which would have to be built on part of the lower concourse.

Several ideas have been floated over the last several years. Besides the above two, there was also a proposal to redo the other end zone, with a larger building that has luxury boxes and a new R-room.
