Hate to say this but it's best to recruit kids outside of Memphis. It's hard to hold on to good local talent because there are so many people in their ear telling them where to go.

While that may be true...

The bigger issue is us being kids SAFETY school.

Unfortunately that will be the case until we become more relevant in college football...Only way I know for that to happen (p5 inclusion) aint happening anytime soon.

WR Mullins and DE Gregory would have been major impact players and possibly 4-yr starters here. Like so many before them, they will follow the P5 dream and ride the line for several seasons.

Not too long ago, we were scraping the barrel for recruits. Now we are consistently landing classes that are >50% 3-Star players. Keep “Rowing The Boat!”

Loss of highly rated recruits is the plight and bane of schools outside the P-5. 03-nutkick

hmmm..

go to Arkansas...get the hell beat out of you...finish towards the bottom of the SEC...or go to Memphis....finish first in your division...and go to a bowl game.
Is it really that hard of a decision?

not a hard decision at all. more money, better facilities, better training table, better travel accommodations, playing in sec stadiums...

If he wanted to go to the NFL he would have chosen Memphis
If he wanted to win games and go to bowls he would have chosen Memphis
If he wanted to go to a NYD6 Bowl or CFP then he would have chosen Memphis, {admittedly our CFP odds are low, but they are ahead of Arkansas')

If he wanted to get a degree and be a legend in his home town he would have chosen Memphis.

The only thing he gains by choosing Ark over Memphis is he can say "i play in the sec" ... oh and he can learn to call the hogs 03-lmfao

Losing sucks. What's worse than losing? Losing and having to yell pig sooie. My guess is he'll regret it unless there is a girl involved.

No surprise about the more money and gifts supplied by some SEC schools, just look down the road to Oxford. Hey B got your pink pants on with your pink bow tie?

RE: Eric Gregory commits to Memphis
I've wrestled with this for years and years.

At Arkansas, Ole Miss, Kentucky, MSU and Vandy and most teams in all the P5s have zero chance of ever winning anything of any consequence. Yes, Memphis can probably never have a chance at a national championship, but no one else does either, really. Only 20 teams have been college football champions since 1980, only about 30 since WWII. So, you aren't winning anything big at any of the other P5 schools.

So, would you rather be 12-1, conference champion and heading to a decent bowl game or 5-8 Kentucky heading towards your next losing season as a senior loser whose never won a big game ever? Kentucky has had one 11 win season (1950), one 10 win season (1977) two 9 win seasons (1949 & 1984), five 8 win seasons ever in their history along with 53 losing records. Ole Miss has never and probably won't ever make it to the SEC championship game, let alone win it. Vanderbilt makes them look good, they've had twenty 2 win seasons and seven 1 win seasons. It amazes me why Vanderbilt even bothers with the SEC. The money is big, but is it worth it to be dumped on year after year after year?

Never thought about it but that is true.

Alabama and TXA&M and Florida and LSU and Georgia and Auburn and even South Carolina and Tennessee have big time stadiums.

Mississippi, Moo, Vanderbilt, Arkysuck...not so much. But they do get to play more road games in places like Gainesville.
