This is an instance where the media is just going to laser focus on the shooting. When I watched the video I was also “incensed’ “made mad’ that the guy was shot in front of his kids. Other articles I have read said the white guy was looking for a fight.

This whole incident will be framed around who was the aggressor.

Now what if I told you the family was parked in a handicap spot? Does that change your viewpoint. As a one time father of a special needs kid I too get irate when I see someone parking in a handicap spot. That changes the argument. Debate the shooting all you want. Don’t say thee white guy was lookin for a fight. He wasn’t.. he was defending the handicap space.

RE: I have a different take on the Florida Stand your Ground shooting.
I don't think the guy was looking for a fight. And you're probably right about him being upset that they were taking a handicap spot I front of the store. But I look at it in this light. A 5 year old had to use the bathroom probably an in and out job, and the only space was that one.

I see people parking in handicap spots all the time and it frustrates me, but I don't go play sheriff.

First off, who yells at a woman sitting in a car?

Secondly, he's knocked on the ground and he pulls a gun as his first instinct? I'd understand it if the guy was coming at him to keep pummeling him but that doesn't sound like the case.

I'm pro 2A but sometimes I feel the wrong people carry. This being one of them. I saw a guy in Walmart the other day open carrying but he was in Walmart with his family, what danger could come of it?

I dunno. I'd like to see how this shakes out.

RE: I have a different take on the Florida Stand your Ground shooting.
I think people play sheriff because they know they are carrying. The one who was shot obviously didn’t know. I was dropping off cardboard boxes one time and got into a heated verbal spat with a guy in front of my kid. To this day he will bring it up. I easily could have popped that guy. Here I could have thought it was a fist fight and the guy could have shot me. That’s the inherent problem with some of these laws. One guy doesn’t know he’s in a gunfight and most of the time you only have one guy’s word versus a guy who can’t tell his side of the story because he’s dead.

Moral of the story don't physically attack someone else. They might out a gun and kill you.

Exactly right, and if under attack that person would be justified in defending himself.

I agree with you as well. I see people all the time parking in handicap that shouldn't be. I see people with a cart full of groceries get in the 12 items or less register. People need to stop policing and let the folks who are trained do it. I also think his reaction to pull his gun out was too quick. Even police give warnings before they shoot.

What would you do if someone was yelling at your wife/girlfriend with your kids in the car?

Ignore them? Weren't you one of the same group of posters who said they would of beat the crap out of the guy who was yelling at Trumps daughter when she was on the plane with her family? If I see anybody yelling at my wife and kids I will defend them. I will not ignore and continue to let them yell at my family. If he thinks he can yell and get away with it then he is probably going to think he can do more.

Yes, ignore them. That is better than getting shot over something so silly. It really is that simple.

Are you going to answer the question? What are you going to do? You are going to escalate the situation? How are you going to defend your wife and kids? Is driving away a good defense?

Which is exactly how they train you not to act. Want to know who the conceal carry guy is during a fight? It should be the guy running away as fast as they can.

The problem as I see it. It should be open carry because you don't know you are in a gunfight. I actually think the white guy was in the right telling the family not to park in the handicap spot. The 50 items in the express lane pisses me off too. Go to the self scanning aisle. Just rude people out there. 99.9999999% of the time you probably do ignore it but I've also been drawn into these things. Wifey sent me up to get a couple of card board boxes. Local grocery store has a rack of them out front for you to grab. I pull up to the curb, hop out grab two boxes and this guy starts berating me for not parking my car. I was literally ten seconds. It took longer at him yelling at me than me actually grabbing the boxes and putting them in my trunk. I was in a hurry. Had a ton of things on my mind. It escalated quickly. In front of my boy even. Kid was screaming. Get inside DAD!!! I'm about ready to pop this guy in the nose. You are not rational in the heat of the moment like that.

RE: I have a different take on the Florida Stand your Ground shooting.
I think this is wrongly portrayed as a "Stand Your Ground" issue. Stand Your Ground only says you don't have a duty to retreat. The same standard of self-defense applies otherwise. In this case, since he was on the ground, he could have claimed he felt he could not safely retreat and the result would be the same. I disagree with the sheriff somewhat. But not sure a jury would convict either. There's probably a reasonable doubt about whether he acted in self-defense. This one seems unjustified to me, but not sure anyone could get a conviction out of it.

I'm hugely in favor of stand your ground as a law because the alternative is prosecuting innocent people for murder because they didn't try every possible way to retreat when faced with a deadly confrontation. For example, woman is confronted by her stalker who has a knife in a parking lot, there's plenty of avenues for her to run and escape, but she pulls out a firearm and shoots him. Should she be charged with murder because she didn't attempt to flee? I'd say no.

Because you already know the answer. The fact that I have to give details to a man on how to defend his family is really troublesome.
