C-USA fails again during Rivalry Week
I know the schedule has been out for a while but I think this is a major issue with C-USA. Here are all the final match ups of the season. Its a joke how C-USA cant understand this concept and refuses to create rivalries. They claim to be on the forefront of basketball scheduling but continue to fail during one of the best weeks of college football.
Charlotte at FAU (no rivalry)
Marshall at FIU (no rivalry)
MTSU vs UAB (not much)
ODU at Rice (no rivalry)
WKU at La Tech (not much)
NT at UTSA (probably some texas rivalry)
Southern Miss at UTEP (not much rivalry)
No brainer match ups should be
FAU vs FIU
Marshall vs WKU
or
MTSU vs WKU
ODU vs Charlotte (could be a rivalry but charlotte sucks and C-USA wont schedule it)
USM vs UAB or USM vs La Tech
Any texas matchup

RE: C-USA fails again during Rivalry Week
Do CUSA rivalry weekend the first weekend in November that way our “rivalry” games aren’t in competition with other big college football games at the end of the season.

RE: C-USA fails again during Rivalry Week
Yeah, playing Western on Thanksgiving weekend makes no sense.
If we play Western early they're going to be one of our bigger crowds, if we play them Thanksgiving weekend, it'll just mean a paltry crowd rather than an abysmal one.
Best case scenario, we both have nine or ten wins, are playing to decide the division and catch perfect weather, maybe we get a real crowd, but it probably still would have been bigger a month earlier.
The fact of the matter is, G5 grads/families do not include their big rivalry games into their holiday weekend even remotely close to the way P5 grads/families do.

MTSU will have crap attendance either way.

I thought they moved the rivalry games to a different week when students will be able to attend.

RE: C-USA fails again during Rivalry Week
Rivalry Week is overrated. Even if we did have solid rivalries on display that particular week, with P5 rivalry games going on, the ratings for our games wouldn't be any different than they are for any other normal week anyway. And rivalries aside, it seems there are some good matchups with Marshall/FIU, MTSU/UAB, WKU/LATech, and UNT/UTSA. There might be some very interesting implications at stake among those 8 teams for not only conference standings but bowls as well. Besides, we really only have 2 or 3 "rivalries" so far in this conference. We even debate each other in threads about whether some of them even are rivalries. LOL
And do we really wanna see the same teams playing each other that week every single year? For that matter, with the difficulty there is of juggling schedules so that we don't see the same interdivisional games every year among our 14 teams, is it really even feasible for us to essentially chisel in the same slate of "rivalry" games for this week every year? Seems that might handcuff us a bit too much.
So I don't know about all the rest of you, but as long as we have some interesting matchups for that last week, I don't really give a ****.

On the same day (probably about the same time) we play UAB; Vandy will be hosting Rocky Top University 35 miles away. If either or both of them are playing for Bowl eligibilty, MT will be lucky to draw 9,000 fans. 6,000 or less if the weather is bad. Hate to be cynical but a whole lot of our fans are as hot for UT or Vandy as Trump is for Putin. Probably draw a few more thousand if we were playin' Western.

Agreed. Still relatively new league. They don't need to force anything because other leagues do it. We're still at a point where one year team X is a rival and the next year team Y is. I care more about beating FAU this year than I do about WKU. FAU is the team to beat on top of the hill. If WKU or FIU win the league then next year one of those will be my biggest rival. We don't have enough history and/or geography with anyone here except maybe USM (still weak as rivalries go) to make them a permanent rivalry.

C-USA fails again during Rivalry Week
As far as conference opponents go, I think most North Texas fans would consider UTSA our rival (We def hate SMUg more). So our game fits the theme, but I think it would be better much earlier in the season when the students are on campus and both teams are theoretically still in the division race.

mturn says don’t listen to clt. he’s delirious from playing tennis in 95 degree temps all summer. clt’s inferior tennis facilities have no indoor courts. sad.

Speaking of rivals, ODU is 2-1 against UTEP since joining the league, but we haven't played for 2 years now. Come on Judy, let the rivalry blossom

RE: C-USA fails again during Rivalry Week
Our biggest (and only) rivalry is FIU. I do not care if it occurs during the rivalry week. In fact, I'd rather it would be in a totally different week, so it may get a better audience.

So it’s like the TCU vs SMU rivalry? If TCU fans even recognize it anymore
