That's fantastic and really on track to get to that magic 55% number.

Why so many of the AAC schools are missing from this list? Temple, Tulsa, Tulane.

Ya, I kind of figured the privates. But I went to compare us to Temple and ECU as a barometer and was like well crap. But we're financially on par (bottom of that pack) more than I thought. We need to get out % down into the 40s.

Well, 46 million for 18 athletic teams, 130+ employees, scholarships for athletes attending, facilities, etc. But yes only 2 championships in the last years ROI if that's the way we want to look at it.

In 2016-17, the year in question, we won 1 championship in women's golf.

It's really not so much the number itself that bothers me. It's the fact we are by far the biggest spender in the conference, yet you'd have no idea based on results. Maybe I'm looking at it the wrong way?

Thats my concern too. We do well with the fundraising for the most part, we had terrible timing with the football stadium, but overall we seem to be in better financial shape athletically than many of our peers. Yet WKU, MTSU etc continue to beat our tail on the field and on the court. ODU does more with less on many things, but in athletics we seem to do less with more (in CUSA).

In percentage allocated we are now behind UNCC, FAU, FIU, MTSU, UNT and UAB, in CUSA, so we are now in the middle. That's improving. Not having to rise fees to build the new stadium that's also good news.

JMU is the number two school in the country with money allocated by student fees at 81% and $39mil and they're added to that to replace the Convo.

The PA public schools all have weird accounting rules when it comes to state funding so I'd assume it's related to that.

I ended up seeing in the AAC board where PA does have some rules exempting Temple and such.

Temple, Pitt, and Penn State are all state related universities. The pure public universities in PA are D2 schools like West Chester, IUP, Kutztown, etc.

To answer the question, as of 2016, we were the lowest subsidized public university in the G5 at about 25%. Tulane is actually subsidized more than we are by a good bit. The next two lowest public universities in the G5 were New Mexico and Boise State, which has not changed. I'm guessing our number hasn't changed much either. Tulsa and SMU are the only G5 schools I'm aware of with lower subsidized athletic departments.

Even more tangibly than just results, I have a hard time resolving our top of the conference budget with our well below the top competitors coaches' salaries.

How might student fees (or relative lack thereof) play into the equation on what we have to spend just to field a program and what we have left over for coaches' salaries. I have no idea if that's even a factor. Just speculating.

Student frees aside, I think the point was that we are at or near the top of CUSA with overall athletic spending, but at the middle or below with respect to coaches compensation.
