You think the right was sitting back being sweet between 2008 and 2016? There was drama. There were people threatening to move out of the country. Everything was a "get guns while you still can" moment. Even gay marriage.
Cool, calm, and collected was not a thing back for you guys back then.

I know. You guys were plain angels. Nary a bad word said.

I think there is a wide gap between being angels and what the left is doing now, and I think that the right in the Obama years fell somewhere in that gap. Not angels, but not the extreme we are seeing now.

Of course, this may just reflect buildup over time. I didn't think the republicans were as willing to work with Bill Clinton as they should have been. I thought democrats were much worse toward GWB, and republicans in turn were somewhat worse toward Obama, but the left response to Trump has ratcheted it up several notches. I don't recall restaurants throwing Obama staffers out, or republican congress critters calling for violence against Obama. Maybe I just have foggy memory, but I don't think so. Part of what restraint existed may have been the rapidity with which the left played the race card at any response other than subservient obedience.

That's where I'm coming from. It's a buildup. I can't predict the future, but how would you expect republicans to act if they lost control of something this go 'round. Do you see a de-escalation? What happens if all the happiness and braggadocio of the #WINNING era takes a 180?

What happens is that people are happy to see themselves get control and they begin to get the delusion that their grip is permanent. Once they lose their grip they can't handle it.

Sorry, but I gotta call bullspit on that one.

I don't recall any right wingers threatening to move out of the country. Some may have thought about it, but there was no where near the level of unhingment we're seeing today, NOR the call for violence against an elected president.

And anyone who said "get guns while still can" had a legitimate concern that their rights to own one were being infringed upon and they might not have the opportunity to own one some day.

I certainly don't recall any rightwing meltdowns when Obama won either term. I, in fact, wished the man well his first term, hoping he could accomplish some positive things like bringing African-Americans and whites together. We know how well that worked out. Turned out he came closer to achieving his goals of healing the earth and stopping the rise of sea levels.

When the left is behaving so badly that guys like Schumer have to step in and tell everyone to dial it back, you know it's gotten out of hand.

The crazy thing about those democrats.....after the way Trump was treated by most of the republican party. You had a businessman in the White House that would have worked just as easily with those more centered on the left as the republicans.

It's a f'ing shame to see how far left the democrats have went since the mid 90s . Nope the fringes won out and now the democrats are starting to see their base move away. I'm telling you, on Nov 7th 2016, a republican was not elected....

at least not in the sense of the party of Bush.

Make no mistake about it, what we are seeing today from the left, is the fringe, and to most of America...it's ugly

Hey, stop making so much sense with so few words damnit! I struggle to articulate my thoughts and have to write two paragraphs in order to poorly do so and here you are saying what I mean in one sentence.

Here's the difference:

Small child wants candy but is told no - he frowns but goes on with life = Republican

Small child wants candy but is told no - proceeds to meltdown and throw himself on the supermarket aisle floor and have a fit = Democrat

............why is it this way - too many little ones have been given the candy after throwing the fit............................

Excellent!

Another difference:

One party loses an election, both the legislative branch and oval office. Makes sure to start organizing and rallying their base to win the next several elections. = Republicans

One party loses an election. both legislative branch and oval office. Proceeds to have temper tantrums requiring their base to seek help in the form of coloring books and play-doh. = Democrats

Adults v children.

That I can agree with. It wouldn't have surprised me if the democrats could've pulled out a whole bunch from Trump if they didn't value the White House so much.

What he's stood for historically:
1. Universal healthcare
2. Improved infrastructure
3. Fair trade deals

I would take all those in a second in a vacuum. A complement here and there would've gotten them what they wanted.

Really? The Republicans want to

1) Allow for people to be fired from their jobs simply because they are LGBTQ
2) Allow for the denial of public accommodations simply because they are LGBTQ
3) Allow for the denial of HEALTH CARE equality simply because they are LGBTQ
4) Allow for the denial of employment in TAXPAYER funded jobs (and services too) simply because they are LGBTQ
5) Allow for outright discrimination against LGBT kids and the children of LGBT kids in education by TAXPAYER FUNDED schools.

From HB1523, to the Pidgeon v Turner ruling by the Texas Supreme Court, to HB6, to a mountain of legislation targeting LGBT people

They're not just coming for Obergefell, which they will render useless by allowing for the dilution of marriage for LGBT persons by bigots.....but they're coming for Lawrence v Texas.

----

Trump will let an outright advocate of jailing LGBT persons for the crime of existing, Tony Perkins, to pick the next Supreme Court pick.

----

And of course, some of you guys will argue then....well then why can't LGBT people just move. And then argue that states that make it impossible for LGBT people to exist should have extra representation in the Senate and in Presidential elections.

One party loses an election

My brother, who had insurance and money, was denied a hospice bed when he was dying, simply because he was a Gay man who had a disease that primarily affected Gay men, living in Alabama. He died a needlessly painful death without the care HE PAID FOR with his insurance premiums simply due to discrimination. By the way, he used to post on CSNBBS, under the name AlaIllTex. This wasn't in 1983, but in 2017. Sue you ask? Under what law? And if that can happen to my brother, who had money, insurance, and some VERY privileged (not me, but my family) people advocating for him, then what do they do to people who don't have those things? Here's a clue. https://www.al.com/news/mobile/index.ssf..._dump.html By the way, the fact that some distant relative of the deceased in this case got a small payout doesn't take away from the fact that he was friggin killed by Mobile Infirmary. No one was prosecuted for this. No one lost a bonus as far as I can tell.

Just next door to where I had to figure out how to attempt to care for my dying brother last August, over in Mississippi, a Gay man was refused service by a funeral home, simply because he was in a Gay marriage. They had pre-paid for the cremation. He was insulted too. As a result, he was threatened with having his husband's body thrown out onto the curb if he didn't stop his greaving and try to find someone to burn the body up. The funeral home is fighting that lawsuit, because Mississippi. This was in 2016.

But thanks for reducing the suffering and discrimination we face to that of not getting candy.

And its not like the GOP didn't provide a strong assist in the deaths of 10 million American people from a disease they refused to fight early when it was only killing Gay men and persons of color. Have you been to 10 funerals for close friends under the age of 35 in the same month? Most combat veterans haven't. But just about every Gay man over the age of 50 has. There's a historical precedent here. Thanks Reagan.

And remember, that Trump is in alliance with people who actually DO round up people simply for being Gay and put them into death camps. Trump wont condemn and he's trying to go to Helsinki to excuse a naked grab of land. He certainly won't ban Russian supporters of human rights violations from the US. And Trump is relying heavilly on those that directly have supported criminalization of LGBT persons for domestic advice too. People like Tony Perkins. People like Austin Ruse. And what about the Muslims you ask? Sure, Trump has been the punk b*tch of the Saudis too.

It's a f'ing shame to see how far left the democrats have went since the mid 90s . Nope the fringes won out and now the democrats are starting to see their base move away. I'm telling you, on Nov 7th 2016, a republican was not elected....

at least not in the sense of the party of Bush.

No it wouldn't have. Complimenting Trump gets you no where in the long run. And why should anyone compliment Trump, unless he deserves it.

Tommy is one of those that only see's....ME. A one agenda person that thinks his agenda is the most important thing to the world. Tom is not a person. Tom is not a male. Tom is not a female. Tom is not white. Tom is not black.....

Tom is gay and nothing else matters

Actually, when you face an existential threat simply for being who you are then nothing else matters. Self preservation takes over. So, when I have a right to equal health care, equal participation, and equal standing in society, then lets talk.

I can promise you that to the Trump Admin, the fact that I am Gay is all that matters.

So for persons of color, and LGBT persons, that's all that matters. Don't whine about identity politics because you guys are simply amping it up to exponential heights.

To us, you are completely summed up by your support of Trump. It defines you so much more than the fact I am a Gay man.

BS, how so?

You think the right was sitting back being sweet between 2008 and 2016? There was drama. There were people threatening to move out of the country. Everything was a "get guns while you still can" moment. Even gay marriage.

Cool, calm, and collected was not a thing back for you guys back then.

The difference is Republicans buckled down, protected themselves, and rode out the storm between 08 and 16. We voted in the midterms, and though we didn't get what we expected out of the elections, we did get a strong enough block to limit the damage.
Did we purchase guns and ammo? Absolutely, but only because there were cries from the fringe left to abolish the 2nd amendment, and direct action from the President that promised to severely limit the 2nd amendment with or without congressional approval.
Any objective person would be hard pressed not to notice the difference in republican actions during obama's era and the far left, and even mostly mainstream liberal actions so far under trump. Like someone else said, there were a few instances of republicans acting out or being overly dramatic, but it isn't an hourly occurrence like it's been since trump won.

I seriously doubt the SC will touch Roe v Wade, at least until after 2020. Even if they do the worst case is that it will be a state's rights issue and people will still be able to cross state lines to get an abortion if they would like.

The sky is in fact not falling.

And can we just be honest and admit that there are those who would never compliment the man regardless of what he accomplishes.......even if they make the claim they would?

That's just a pain of being president.

The president doesn't give a rat's ass. I just tire of leftists making the assertion that they'll give him credit when he deserves it when in reality I know there is nothing he can do that will get them to swallow the bad clam and say, "he done good".
