Over the past several years, there have been many complaints about fan-based amenities (bathrooms, concessions, access for the disabled, etc) at Legion Field. To seek to trivialize these concerns and if they will be met by a new expensive stadium for the sake of a cheap laugh does them no honor. The potential for cost cutting at the expense of amenities fans want to see achieved is still unknown since funding is still mainly conjecture.

There needs to be a real emphasis on the amenities - those things that seperate it the standard football stadium. A smaller stadium that makes the patron feel special and appreciated will go a long way...

Random question but any thoughts on the chances for a partial overhang (for slight protection from sunlight, etc.)?

That is another addition to the list of desired amenities that have been stated on our wish list. When the design is made public, we will then know if we are getting the modern, state of the art fan-centric stadium we want or just a smaller version of what we already have.

I don’t think this is going to be half-assed. I know you wanted a dome but the bandwagon still has room. Jump on brother.

It's not going to have a dome, so forget it. But it will have running water in the bathrooms and hot water in the locker room showers so it'll definitely be an upgrade

I totally agree. Make even the lower income people feel pampered with something like a club level of their own. People do not mind doling out money if they feel like their getting something, no matter how insufficient, that others are not receiving. Many small arenas having Beer zones with private bathrooms, concessions larger seats. They put them in or near the end zone where tickets do not sell well and people flock to them.
Something like that would be nice for a small stadium.

I have accepted that the decision has been made to build a smaller, seasonally useful open air stadium rather than the year round functionality of a MPF. Some seem satisfied if it has indoor plumbing and hot water showers for the locker room, but many hoped for more amenities for fans than that minimum. When the design is final, we will know for sure what the city (and UAB) will get when real funding meets real costs.

Lawson Field?
We get it- you love Legion Field and its glorious stadium certificates, and the only thing that could possibly replace it is a $1,000,000,000 dome (preferably with stadium certificates), but at this point you're like an old man yelling at clouds.

Please advise when UAB ever played at Lawson Field. Yes, I am an old man, and I admit I am asking questions which some prefer to ignore answering. I do want Legion Field (and its Stadium Certificates) retired, and I have stated several times that I prefer the year round usable for larger conventions MPF rather than the BJCC smaller scale seasonal stadium.
Some have claimed there are plans for some convention space and other accommodations, but then they admit the design is not yet final, so we don't know what we will be getting until it is. I believe it is probable that by the middle of this century, B'ham and its metro area dependents will regret having once again built smaller and cheaper than its needs for a brighter future. 1998 may come to be seen as the pivotal year that this metro area turned away from sitting at the big players table and chose short pants and the little folks minor league table for its future.

Whether or not it has stadium certificates or not, will be the deciding factor for many......including myself!

Before purchasing the bells and whistles for distribution, we should contact all surviving stadium certificate holders (all three of them) and ask what types of bells and whistles they desire.
Slide whistles? Cowbells? Dog whistles? Porcelain angel bells? Steam whistles? Jingle bells?

You see, that's what's called a "joke." I was light-heartedly making the point that Lawson Field could be considered a smaller version of what we have now. The joke was made as a way of pointing out how low of a bar the new stadium has to clear to be better than what we have now, which you seem to be concerned about. You with me now?
