I think that there is an NCAA quiet period coming up or something.
Not that it matters, because ODU recruiting has been in a quiet period since November 2017 (except for players leaving).

RE: Men's Basketball Recruiting: 2018
I always get excited about November MBB recruiting, but Spring is a drag. If we get the player from LSU, I wonder how JJ will use a 300 pound & 7 foot player, in his extreme defense. On defense, you have to have quickness in JJ's system. Unfortunately, the longer we go without a recruit, we always get the marginal leftovers. Also, for the last three year's the LSU big man has averaged 2 points per game. Sounds like a normal Spring recruiting period for ODU, just like the last four years. JJ's team' are built around transfers, not talented freshmen. We have not recruited a big freshmen in several years. It does appear that unlike last season, If are looking for a constant three pointer shooter, he left for lack of playing time. Yes, his defense needed work, but he could have added a lot of scoring to our sorry 3pt %. Our current three point shooters are good, but not consist. We will see a lot of playing time with our incoming freshmen, unlike last year. I hope I will be pleasantly surprised next season. Maybe that depends on defense and hustle of the new freshmen. In JJ's system defense comes first, blended with a little in offense.

I hope they are ready to go. If not, it's going to be a long year.
(and yes, if we aren't dancing in March of 2019, JJ needs to go. No more excuses.)

It may be a long year regardless. But that doesn't change the fact that bluelight was incorrect when they stated ODU has not recruited a freshman big in several years.
Facts matter.

True. If he had said, until this year, he would be correct. (I know Aaron Carver is 6'7", but he's not a "big" like we need, especially the way we shoot the ball).

I noticed the same thing in his remarks and agree with you in principal. I thought however that he was referring to a freshman being brought in to play center so I gave him a break and didn't respond. Of course if Jeff is not successful in his search for a transfer center, one of those two may well end up having to play the position by default.

Jesus Christ. Where CAN they cut at this point? I know so many reporters and editors and photogs not there anymore, not of their own volition and not for anything they've done wrong. I know the print game is struggling and may be past its event horizon moment, but at some point when do you throw in the towel? I've worked there three times (and gotten laid off all three) so I have a soft spot/codependency thing with them, but I'd rather someone put them out of their misery than have them lurch along this pitifully.

I know this is totally off topic, but it raises an interesting question for me that you may have some insight to. Where is the disconnect. Surely, there is a market for localized news, especially with sports and local politics/investigative. What do these old print companies need to do to be able to continue to provide the local news that people want. Their are web based news services on a national level everywhere that seem to be successful. Is print the albatross that is killing these companies? Is it outdated business practices? Are they too fat? Do they just not understand how to compete in the digital space? It seems every move The Pilot makes around digital is the wrong one. From layout, to monetization, to app accessibility, the entire thing is a mess. I stopped paying for my online subscription because there is not an enjoyable way for me to consume all of their content. There also needs to be an easy way for me to subscribe. If I went to their site, and instead of getting the annoying pop up telling me to subscribe and go through 10 steps to start said subscription, there was an option to subscribe in one click with Google Pay, Amazon, or Apple Pay and then view the news in the Google News or Apple news app, I would not hesitate to pay them $10 a month. As it is, I refuse to pay for the terrible experience they currently provide.

How far back do we have to go to find a 6'10" or taller 2* or 3* freshman? I can't think of a single recruit that fits that profile. Maybe Cal Bowdler?

The newspaper industry is in a death spiral caused by several factors beyond its control. The subscriber base is dwindling as readers age. Digitally attuned young people have no interest in print. Advertising revenue is plummeting as dollars are lost to TV and online sources as well as direct mail. Classified ads are a thing of the past. Losing Farm Fresh is probably a $1 million account. As circulation declines, it becomes even harder to hold advertisers without cutting ad rates. And the most recent blow is the 30 percent tariff Trump put on Canadian paper that is probably costing the Pilot at least $2 million a year and bigger papers as much as $5 million. Subscriptions have not even covered the cost of newsprint and printing in the past. Advertising has been the main revenue source, and now there is little hope of getting that back. Having spent my whole career as a newspaper editor, including 25 at the Pilot, I am shocked and saddened at how quickly things have gone downhill. Only a demoralized skeleton staff remains in the newsroom, yet the easiest way to cut costs is to get rid of employees.

Really makes me sad. The morning paper has been a part of my life as far as memory takes me. It'll be a real loss to the quality of life once the pilot closes shop.
Not to mention the civic loss of a major watch dog. Complain all you want about fake news, this country is in for a world of hurt once the investigative reporter becomes a thing of the past.
