Coach Bloom post-spring-game press availability
About five minutes of uncut, unedited interview video with Rice head coach Mike Bloomgren after Saturday's Blue-Gray intersquad game.

Player interviews, other stuff will follow in the next couple of days...

Interesting but very smart hearing his comments. Sounds like the backfield position is pretty set but all other positions are open for the fall especially for the new class coming in which is a big class of 26.

Thanks for the video.
Interesting that Tyner appears to be the starter. Nice to see some separation, unlike years past.
Is the Vandy transfer already on campus? -- or is Tyner beating the competition only among guys already on hand?
Also interesting comment from George about the D scheme fitting the strengths of the personnel better. No details given though, so maybe it's just platitudes, but one can hope...

At this point it is Tyner and walkons. The QB battle hasn’t even started.

Vandy transfer not on campus. Has to finish the semester there. Will be here this summer.

"Vandy transfer".... Let's do this.... He's from the SEC, he has to be a baller.....

Look.... It don't matter if Elmer Fudd is at QB, Bloomgren has already done significant work to eliminate the "poor Rice Owls" culture that DB implanted... The team as it is currently constructed is worth 3-5 wins over last year and that's before a fall camp, an influx of new players, and a Commodore at the helm....

kudos to Coach Bloom for the culture he's creating....

I agree with this. Though we will have a talent drain this coming season-- no doubt about that, I do think the more aggressive coaching philosophy, coupled with improved discipline, accountability and special teams play will be worth 5 - 6 wins, especially given our games against PVA&M and Sub-100 ranked CUSA opponents.

Yeah, but Lynch (or was it Edmondson) was our QB coach at the time. Just saying.

Just watched the HC clip.
Wow.
When was the last time after a Spring Practice that all the pertinent coaches sat down with EACH player for 20 minutes to give them feedback and a tangible plan for the off season....Theme: how to make the player better for the individual and the team.

Does anybody know if this has been done in recent seasons?

John Reagan would have been the offensive coordinator for Fanuzzi (in 2011 at least). Lynch was the wide receivers coach at that point (and he was a solid WR coach whether people want to believe that or not).

Edmonson was the QB coach, no?

Read that Vandy transfer has one pass, for a completion, in four years. Should have great fundamentals but a baller?

Please note that my comments were made with "guarded facetiousness". If Stank-o-dore is good enough to supplant what that big dude Tyner did this spring in this offense, then Rice becomes a conference title contender. I think we have our guy in camp now. That's just my opinion. But what do I know? I've only been right... about everything.

You may be right about some things and maybe even many things, but only my wife is right about EVERYTHING! If you don't believe me, ask her. But be standing a good distance away.

a fair point to be sure... When it comes to the joy of marriage, my advice to all brethren is to always make the keen choice between being "right" or being "happy". Winning is a matter of personal definition.
