RE: Coach Bloom post-spring-game press availability
Athlon Sports just listed their rankings of starting quarterbacks from the 130 FBS teams. Jackson Tyner comes in at #129.

Notice how the general ranking if the team reflects very closely to the ranking of the QB?... so the question is, "chicken or egg?"

Too bad about Smalls. He'd be higher on the Athlon list. I didn't quite understand why he was written off by some so quickly, considering he was a true freshman who showed flashes and had the best arm on the roster, as evidenced in this highlight: https://youtu.be/ded_UjUHxgs
But I always saw good poise, size, and arm in Tyner. Accuracy was just not there on medium throws. If he makes a big improvement in that department, he'll be a very suitable QB for Coach Bloom. I worry that the defense is so subpar right now that any apparent improvement witnessed in the Spring was just an illusion.

I am sorry.. please take no offense but you have got to be kidding me about Smalls arm. Seriously, he was throwing maybe 6-15 passes a game. Hardly the stats of someone with “the best arm” on the team. Find the 60 yard bomb Tyner threw against army. Mic drop....
I agree what we saw in spring may not be as good as we think but I can assure everyone that what we will put on the field as a team will be ten fold better than what we’ve seen the last three seasons. These boys are getting coached up. The old regime was like a HS PE class. Roll call roll ball. No instruction. One thing I noticed in the two practices I saw was much more mental toughness. Guys would get bumps and bruises and maybe miss a play or two then get right back in wanting more. Bailiff’s tenure those guys would be done for the day nursing themselves. Something to this intellectual brutality thing.

I agree. These guys realise you better give 100% on every play if you want to play or you should move to a different sport at Rice or transfer out.

As i've mentioned in previous posts, Tyner looked much, much better in the spring game than i've seen him in prior seasons. Very poised in the pocket, soft touch on his passes, accuracy right on the money. Hope this carries over under a game situation; I think it will.
