I'll be happy with Jones when he finally wins a CUSA regular season title.

I'll be happy with Jones when he finally wins a CUSA Tournament.

I'll be happy with Jones when he finally gets ODU back into the NCAA Tournament.

All things considered, I'm afraid I may never be happy with Jones.

According to Ed’s newest article, we should be pre season #7 in CUSA next year. If that is what’s going to happen I’d just as soon start the search process now.

And so did Denzel. He started every game as a freshman. Travis Fields played quite a bit as well.

Agreed that when the need arises, he will play freshman.

Dude is getting paid $1.6 million per year. I imagine BT was our highest paid coach (I heard over $800k a year with the private unreported money). Thats only half of what Temple pays. I'm starting to think part of why we aren't getting top level coaches is we simply aren't paying the going rate.

BT made $740,000 when you add up Big Blue Club and radio show.

Notice that the article indicates the bulk of BT’s salary was from ODAF. The caliber of coach we get and ability to pay the premium portion of the salary is dependent on the donors. The university can only afford to pay a certain amount.

Just wondering out loud. If the school gets the salary as low as possible and ODAF picks up the lions share of the rest of his compensation, does the school have reduced exposure for salary if they fire him?
Is the school only responsible for it's part of his compensation? I would think so. So, the buy out would be substantially less than his total compensation package.

CALODUFAN- can you clarify?

The school is ONLY responsible for the state portion of his salary and other benefits such as retirement, insurance and salary. Many of those are terminated once employment is terminated. He can be vested in the state retirement system after I think it is 5 years of employment. It might be longer now.

Get use to it he's our coach for a while. Heck 25 wins and 2nd in a 14 team conference, bet he gets a raise.

If he got a raise and a long extension after having never gotten the Monarchs to the NCAA tournament I have to believe there would be genuine outrage amongst the fanbase. Wood would be on the hot seat then.
