Disney has been quietly buying up streaming assets and recently bought $54 Billion worth of streaming assets from FOX including most of FOX's local stations around the country. Disney also has the majority share in Hulu. I could see a future where Disney concerts a deal with several of its subsidiaries and creates a package that includes access to ESPN+, Disney+, Hulu, Spotify, HBOgo, etc. kind of like a 21st century cable package.

If that happens, I'd so much rather be in it instead of on the outside looking in.

Hulu TV with ESPN+ would be awesome. Im sure they would increase the Hulu TV sub 5 more dollars though.

Bingo.

Cord Cutters rejoice now, but are leading us down the path to less content, but more expensive content.

If Disney was smart they would package all those tear jerking College Gameday stories into their Lifetime streaming service and market it to women.

Not initially. They have contracts to deal with to provide it.

I called this 2 years ago with espn going to a pay base on their streaming. Not trying to take any credit on it because it should have been plain as day at some point espn was going to stop giving it away. But I believe it was cord cutters like Panama who did not see this coming.

But it does make you wonder if the espn+ will be part of your espn service with cable and direct tv or Dish? If not I can see more sports fans cutting away and going to pay base streaming.

Which leads to something else I said that Panama and a few others snickered at...

While I wouldn't care to pay $5 a month for sports I cared about...I would pay to watch the SBC (I watch as much now as I did when Western was in the conference) but not if it was only the SBC....

$5 today, $8, two years from now, and up and up. Hardly anything stays constant

I suspect that ESPN may permit cable/satellite/internet providers to sell the product for a commission to compensate them for collecting the monthly fee but otherwise won't be involved.

I'm fine with paying for content in smaller chunks vs paying a contractually monthly chunk.

This means the end of having to commit to long term deals and having to pay for it when you are not using it.

CUSA gives you the choice of paying in chunks or subscribing.
It is $6.95 for 24 hours
$10.95 for a month
$99.95 for a year

You get ONLY CUSA content.

ESPN+ will be $5 a month.

I am confused as to how they were giving it away as there was no legal way to get Watch ESPN and ESPN for free. It was always an extension of some provider based service you pay for.

Sure it is less content, but it was content that likely was never used to begin with. I would call this targeted content.

We have DirectV and I'm not a big TV watcher (spurts) before we signed another 2 year contract we decided to take a look at all the free trials of streaming.

It seemed that each one would have channels we watched and channels not on the service that we watched one or two shows on, not every day or week but a couple times a month or 3 or 4 times a month. So sometimes you thing you don't need all those channels....

till you no longer get them

I agree that 60+% are just filler channels (shopping, music and those things) but some channels have shows on you watch but not every day.

But no matter the number.....what you pay today will not be what you pay 2, 3, 5 years from now for streaming services.

HUGE difference...espn gets that $5 fee each month

If each of the 12 SBC schools had 10k in fans (total 120k fans that signed up at $5 a month...$50 a year for the SBC app,

thats $6,000,000 going to the SBC and 15k each (180k) that's 9 million

App St and Ga Southern rivalry actually got me starting watching SBC football. However, I would not pay 5.00 a month for ESPN+ since I typically have a SBC as one of the multiple games on the TVs in my man cave. I hope they somehow have regional games like they do for people who already have ESPN or YouTubeTV offers as part of it's lineup like SEC, B10 and the Future ACC network.

For me $5 is a bargain since I get MLS that I was paying $70 a year a for.

Me too. I just hope they keep replays of the games and the condensed versions. I will watch full Houston games but liked watching the condensed replays of other games to keep up with the league.

It was always "free" to me. Maybe it is part of what I pay AT&T for wifi but that cost is low and I don't pay for cable or satellite. I get all ESPN3 "free" if the game is not also on an ESPN tv channel. I would have to pay for everything that is on WatchESPN. But it has been nice since the majority of SBC games are solely ESPN3

espn is paying how much? 1.5 to 2 million a year? 60,000 SBC fans signing up for the SBC streaming app at $50 a year brings in 3 million dollars....

those viewing on eespn+ will be 98% SBC fans.

Yes, CUSA TV sucks only because you have a lot of scoreboard views. If you have ROKU download the OVC app and watch parts of a few basketball games this weekend. You will be surprised at how well they play....

if the OVC can do this so could the SBC and CUSA

I do believe that is the future of getting your content out so fans can view it and then get paid for that content. I hope CUSA goes to something like that.

How do you figure that money is going directly to the SBC? Since ESPN+ covers more than just the Sun Belt?

It was always "free" to me. Maybe it is part of what I pay AT&T for wifi but that cost is low and I don't pay for cable or satellite. I get all ESPN3 "free" if the game is not also on an ESPN tv channel. I would have to pay for everything that is on WatchESPN. But it has been nice since the majority of SBC games are solely ESPN3

Likewise. With Charter 100/100 internet I get ESPN3 and watch espn FREE. This is why I said on that other thread that if you're going away from that and moving all of your content to pay to view you've basically killed exposure outside of dedicated fans.

Which leads to something else I said that Panama and a few others snickered at...

be careful of what you wish for (pay just for what you want) because in the end you will be paying the same or more just for the those things that really really want to watch. And you wont be getting those other 200 channels....some you watched few times a month.

While I wouldn't care to pay $5 a month for sports I cared about...I would pay to watch the SBC (I watch as much now as I did when Western was in the conference) but not if it was only the SBC....

$5 today, $8, two years from now, and up and up. Hardly anything stays constant

Correct you got espn3 as long as your streaming service had espn. I said espn would be be giving that content away for free like today....espn was buying up so much content to put on espn3

at some point they had to start charging a stand alone fee.
