Actually Tulsa was picked 8th and will finish 4th.

No way tubby gets it...might finish 4th? If Houston finishes strong it's Sampson easily.

And missed the NIT. Sampson took a team that had zero postseason predictions and is going to make the NCAA tournament. That’s a pretty big jump.

Make no mistake, Tubby has done a great job this year. However, hopefully the coach at Memphis will never win coach of the year for finishing 5th.

Memphis was predicted 9th and has a chance at 4th. They were predicted to have a losing record and are currently seven games over .500.

Houston was predicted to be 6th and will probably finish 3rd.

We will finish four or five spots higher than predicted. Houston will finish three spots higher than predicted.

Not sure how you think they had a bigger jump from preseason expectations than we did.

While true and I can't argue against your points but you know the conference will vote sampson.
I believe they won't make it to the conference championship.

RE: AAC coach of the year?
How many coaches of the year awards are there?

http://theamerican.org/news/2018/2/23/me...-year.aspx

ATLANTA -- University of Cincinnati men’s basketball coach Mick Cronin has been named a semifinalist for the Werner Ladder Naismith Men’s College Coach of the Year.

Cronin is one of 10 semifinalist named by the Atlanta Tipoff Club on Friday.

Using this list of 10, the Naismith Awards master voting academy will identify the four finalists, to be announced on March 15. The Werner Ladder Naismith Trophy for Men’s College Coach of the Year will be announced on during the Naismith Awards brunch April 1 at Pearl Stable in San Antonio, Texas.

Fans will be able to vote for their favorite coach by visiting http://www.naismithtrophy.com/vote between March 19-30 to cast their ballot, which will account for five percent of the final tally.

RE: AAC coach of the year?
You win 1 game against a good team, that is it. That is not coach of the year work. With that being said, he's going to surpass my win total of 18 (or it may have been 19) so he has surpassed my expectation. Here's my question tho, do you get rewarded for surpassing expectations that were set low due to your own recruiting (if that makes sense)?

RE: AAC coach of the year?
Sampson, no contest.

Then we can chat about Cronin I suppose.

Actually a lot of the conference has not bathed itself in glory this year.

- Wichita is still good, but not COY good.
- Tulsa hasn't been a dumpster fire, but it hasn't been good.
- UCF is better than they should be with the injuries, but still not good.
- I'm shocked SMU still can put 5 on the floor.
- Temple is just good enough to piss off their fanbase.

Honestly, it feels like:

1. Sampson
2. Cronin
3-11: everyone else
12: Ollie

Poor Ollie. He always has the look of someone who is put upon.

He's got a good class coming next year.

Win out as in run through the conf tournament? or just ESU and USF, bc that obviously doesn't put us in the tournament. Then sure he's in consideration, that would mean he beat maybe 2 of WSU, Houston and Cincinnati. Until then, 1 good win. And in this spot bc of his own recruiting. Are both of those statements not factual?

Cronin needs to do something in the tournament this year.

In 14 seasons (11 in Cincinnati)...only has ONE Sweet 16, and 5 total Tournament wins

May be one of the most overrated coaches in the country because he hasn't done squat when it really matters.

I choose Mick Cronin because his team is relevant and the best in the AAC. Winning games is the number one job of the coach and he has succeeded.

RE: AAC coach of the year?
Coach of the Year votes will have already been cast before the start of the AAC tournament, so how the Tigers perform there won't be a factor.

That said, it's between Sampson and Cronin...with a slight edge to Sampson.
