Just be happy that if it goes the way it appears to be going, your Panthers will have a nice recruiting advantage against us. BTW, I'd like to see a series start up with you guys.

Dude. We could totally build a shipping container stadium! It would be a great fit for a great port town. For the suites... 1 container = 2 suites. Pressbox... got that covered. And its a totally sustainable building!!!! Let's get it done Wooderick!

It would certainly reflect the impact of the port and Norfolk Southern in the stadium. Wood would like it because maybe NS would donate used containers for free. I totally see this happening. Heres the headline, Cox bill cripples ODU stadium plans, University to build stadium with recycled containers at a cost of $50,000.98 Broderick replies "at least we didnt raise student fees". lol

That video didn't look like they were using the containers as structural elements, instead just as filler for the erector set.

These use the containers as actual support elements, if not THE structure itself. https://www.containerhomeplans.org/2015/...iner-home/

Interesting article. The relevant part to this topic is how the recruit was on a visit to Duke and was not impressed at all because their stadium "only holds 39,000 people". Of course, we aren't going to be in the running for the #1 QB prospect any time soon, but the point is, facilities, both in size and quality matter tremendously... at every level. Thats a big part of why we were able to climb to the top of FCS so quickly... we had great facilities at that level and competed in the best conference at the time. It helped us recruit quality FCS players from the start. This is why we need a stadium that is of comparable quality and size to the upper echelon of G5 schools.

If you think we are dumbfounded by the current stadium plans, try running the situation by someone who is a more casual fan. Someone who has maybe been to a game or two, follows ODU on the ticker, but doesn't know all the ins and outs and daily movements within the AD. Their reaction is bewilderment followed by a wtf. That, my friends, is how the general public, potential new fans, and recruits view this new stadium.

Very true - my wife reacted that way....she obviously goes to the games with me, and likes the team and all, but doesn't follow the inner workings of the program...when she heard the news she couldn't believe it, and thought it was a colossal waste of funds if we move forward as reported.

RE: NEW stadium construction
I run into people who know we are getting a new stadium, and saw the renderings Populous did in the paper. Some of them are under the impression what we will be getting in 2019 is the full, completed "phase 2". I don't know if there is any way the general public (that hasn't followed this as close as we have) is not disappointed. If the plan finally released is worse than what those of us who follow closely were told to expect, the reported "phase 1", Im afraid the program will be a laughing stock. Of course, that hasn't happened yet, and maybe everything will be very nice, seat 23,000+, with suites, luxuries and expandable to 40,000. I guess we will see... sometime.

This whole thing makes me anxious and nervous all at the same time. I don't think it will be something we fans what to hear because if it was, we would have heard it by now. I hope I'm wrong...

RE: NEW stadium construction
Is it not reasonable to think that they have made the presentation to the "decision makers," as someone here called them and maybe they were underwhelmed by what they saw and the tweaking continues? I was told by someone I have faith is in the know way back when that it would be 20,000 seats and the look on my face was one of pure astonishment. I just didn't understand how that could be. If there was knowledge in some circles in the fall that this was the final plan, and they still haven't announced it, tells me they are still in the process of making changes, perhaps adding some of Ballard's ideas.

As I said once before, this project is so big and so important that the president at some point owes an explanation of what happened and why.

Conspiracy theory alert: perhaps the plan all along was to get us excited for 23,000 seats

I've had that thought. I mean, they couldn't possibly have over promised and under-delivered as much as it appears they may. Something has to be going on behind the scenes. Maybe Ballard will pump $15,000,000 of extras into the place at cost and interest free or something. Perhaps they will announce the original plan of all chairbacks, new suites and 25,000 as originally planned and they'll look like geniuses, we'll all be happy and never lose faith in the powers that be again. Im just not optimistic enough to believe that. Wish I were.

Conspiracy alert II: Vince McMahon has promised to put an XFL team into Foreman Field, paying big $$ rent. This is allowing them to change plans and build big.
