Familiarity breeds contempt sometimes. Nobody from either school's fanbase really knows much about the other one yet. Probably not many from either one have ever stepped foot in the respective towns.
UC and Memphis used to be pretty chippy and was a fun rivalry but other than possibly Tubby Smith 99.99% of the UC fans would be hard pressed to come up with the name of anyone on the court nowadays.
The only ones I know for UC are Cronin and Gary Clark, and I watched the entire last game, lol. I also know one for UCF (Tacko), one for Houston (Gray), one for WSU (Shamet), one for Tulsa (Etou). That's it. Guess we have no real rivals here, lol. Which is true.

Unfortunately the river is much to shallow up here to make that possible unless you did it in a canoe. I don't think the Arkansas is navigable until somewhere around Muskogee. Too bad because that could be fun.

Yeah it's a cool idea but the Arkansas is not like the Mississippi. The dams alone make it impossible to boat between the two cities.

Yep. Its sad, really. Conference didn't do UC and Memphis any favors either by splitting them up in football and then when they do play scheduling them on Thursdays and Fridays so most of the interested fans can't even make the trip.
Memphis is 8 hours away and its our best and closest drive for a game and nobody really does it anymore. I've made that trip 20+ times but its been several years since we have gone.

I actually think I could name more UCONN players than any other team. Rivalry confirmed.

Abso-freaking-lutely. Thanks to the moderation for filtering out the problem. Definitely a lot more smoother of a weekend and just proves where all of the trouble originates from.

I’d place a wager that there were more Shockers than Tulsa(ns)? Canes? Hurricanes?

Ironically, Memphis and UC have more history together than almost any other pair of teams in this conference, yet neither fan base claims the other as a rival.
Memphis fans look at Ole Miss in FB and Louisville in basketball, as rivals. Cincy looks at Louisville in BB and not sure in football, but not Memphis.
It would help if we were both in the same FB division, and were both good at the same time, in either or both sports.
But if we wind up together going forward, it could develop.

The TV shots clearly showed more blue shirts than yellow but I think the ShockTop fans must have been mic'd up or something because they sounded just as loud as the Tulsa fans on TV.

As I said about 60/40
Good job wsu, but honestly it should be Tulsa 90% it's what it use to be, will be. We'll see you next year where I expect the fan and out come to be quite different.

Thanks to you both. Obviously, I need a geography lesson. My only experience with the Arkansas River is in Little Rock. It is quite large there.

Sorry guys, but 1 person did not get us to where this site had fallen. I'd say the playing nice this weekend is more likely thanks to people seeing that the moderators here are serious about banning of people trolling. If you just want to attempt to get a rise out of fans of other schools then you will be out on vacation. Several here have seen that we are serious and have cleaned up (for now) their posting habits.

What you couldn't see on TV was the upper deck which was heavily Shocker fans. While there were Shocker fans in every section of the arena (except the student section), and some lower sections were almost all Shocker fans 106, 107, 108. It was the upper sections that gave the Shocker fans the edge as they were dominated by Shocker fans. That is why we sounded so loud on TV.
Even the Tulsa World says the arena was half and half (and I think they were being kind to TU): http://www.tulsaworld.com/sportsextra/tu...5e513.html

Lol the Tulsa world is worthless when it comes to covering University of Tulsa sadly. Bill Haisten in particular is known for being "sloppy" when it comes to schools not named Oklahoma or Oklahoma St. As I said it was 60/40 which is still 3,500 fans from wichita. The arena holds 8,400.
