I’m not sure of the relevance of your statement in regards to what I said. I don’t think this is a left or right issue, but one of city planning.

The article had its intended effect though. That’s all that matters. I was about to just dismiss this as dumb myself until I read the source information.

It's amazing how what these professors said turned from:

1. The original chapter saying what amounts to: These markets aim for good, but could have the opposite effect for current communities (and usually by sources outside of the market) if implemented with no plan if your town operates under a similar context as San Diego. (9 pages with sources)

2. The Campus Reform article pretty much giving them the credit for not being very controversial, but they spend a little too much time hanging on the term "white". They mention the planning issues, but ignore that the professors said that the bad stuff occurs outside of the markets with the real estate developers and media. (447 words)

3. Foxnews.com article saying that the professors stated that Farmer's Markets are racially biased right in the title. (287 words)

4. OP saying "Now farmers markets are racist". (46% of source 3's words and 5 words of his own)

It's like the telephone game.

Quote:Two California professors are criticizing farmers’ markets for causing “environmental gentrification” in which “habits of white people are normalized.”

San Diego State University geography professors Pascale Joassart-Marcelli and Fernando J. Bosco contend that farmers’ markets are “white spaces” oppressing minorities in a chapter for "Just Green Enough," an environmental anthology focused on urban development.

Environmental gentrification is defined as a process where “environmental improvements lead to … the displacement of long-term residents,” according to the anthology.

The professors, as reported by Campus Reform, say farmers’ markets are “exclusionary” because locals cannot “afford the food and/or feel excluded from these new spaces.”

The SDSU professors, who teach classes like “Geography of Food” and “Food Justice,” argue that “farmers’ markets are often white spaces where the food consumption habits of white people are normalized.”

Such as in First World countries lol

Since grocery stores in low-income communities often lack fresh quality produce, the professors say that in some cases, farmers’ markets may be only source of quality and affordable produce for locals.

This is a lie. When I lived in Covington Ky. I went to one of worse Kroger's in the USA, they always had plenty of fresh produce. Farmers markets are not expensive either. They do not displace anyone or poor people. And if they did that would be good yes, they would push poor people to the older suburban ring where better stores are located.

When I go to Findlay Market I see black folks who take the bus there. They go out of their way to get various specialty products. There is a brand new Kroger in Corryville.
That is where everyone from Walnut Hills, Avondale, Mt. Auburn goes to, and nope that are not upper income.

I work for a faith-based, nonprofit in Cincinnati. My office is located in Bond Hill (for those who do not know it is a poor "black" neighborhood). My employer hosts a Farmer's Market open to the public in the fall. Most of the vendors are African-American. We have produce, breads, pastries, etc. We even line up some local entertainment to play music.

We've really struggled to get people in the community to attend.

not disagreeing with you. just no one's immune to bad luck is all i'm saying

This has nothing to do with luck and has everything to do with the left's insistence on classism and self-perpetuating victimhood.

i think it has everything to do with luck. you being a white male at this day in age is luck. these can be your dilemmas. straight white people be packing. the quote unquote developed world being caucasian illustrates what exclusive company you hold. what's so wrong with shaking your world up a bit?

No, me being a white male in this day and age is because of genetics.

Me making something out of myself despite losing my father at a young age wasn't luck either. That was hard work.

Me not falling into the trap of drugs that so many I went to school with wasn't luck either. That was self-control.

My neighbor, who is black, making something of himself wasn't luck either. That too was hard work.

In this world if you are counting on luck you'll likely never make anything of yourself. If you have the work ethic and self-discipline to see things through you'll likely succeed in life.

If you don't you make excuses and talk about "bad luck"

Either that or just blame someone else for whatever the hell is wrong with his/her life.
