why does that surprise you...as negative as you and too many other fans are on this board, why would a casual fan want to see the product you so regularly describe in such a bad light?

In addition students are on break and returning to campus likely late Sunday afternoon/evening.

Unless I lived in Rockford area , attended Rockford College etc why would many be drawn to see the Regents? They list one player at 6-7 and the rest are pretty much like playing the seven dwarfs.

Should have operated a running clock second half. BTW: Guest lambs played nite before in WISCONSIN.03-zzz

The basketball program is Pooh and has been for the better part of 2 decades now. How else would you describe it?

It is fine to bemoan the Men's basketball team if you go to the games, but if you haven't been to any you have no reason to criticize the coaches or players. It is a fun team to watch in person.

GO HUSKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I haven't been to any games yet but am hoping to get to the next few games at least. I still prefer football but basketball is only a 2-hour game and it's indoors so there's that.

Go Huskies!!!!

I would describe it, 7, as an opportunity to see Division I basketball only about 20 miles from home. If all you care about is wins and losses obviously Huskies have been frustrating over the years. However I have seen scores of very exciting college basketball games over those two decades and more But then again, I like sports for the action during the 2-3 hours they take in and of itself. I have had hundreds of hours of enjoyment watching Willie Hanson Jim Bradley Alan Rayhorn Matt Hicks Kenny battle Donald Whiteside Anthony mastransi Todd Peterson Xavier Silas Tre Baker Marin Maric Eugene German And A few hundred other players who are really fun to watch. I pity the fool that cannot appreciate good athletes in action unless they win every damn game.

Either should St. Francis.
MM and SF will count it. This game will bring up their scoring average. Pad the stats.

Not you personally just the tone of this board from a number of people about counting games vs non D1 teams.
While games that are labeled exhibition are not counted, once the season begins, they do count just as EIU at NIU counted in football. And, it is the case for everybody. Monty and SF do not figure into this at all.
EVERY Division 1 team that plays any non-D1 counts the game. It’s not MM or SF. It’s the way it is. Give it a rest.
Give it a rest? I only mentioned it once and that's just my opinion. Michigan state plays lower level D2 or D3 schools, but they show them as exhibition games and don't count them in their record.

I mean, they will get somewhat better attendance when they are playing a Division I opponent. If they keep winning against Division I opponents at home then that will help.

I live that close and have season tickets. I've had my own for 16 years and before that attended with my dad. It is hard for me sometimes to make the trek over there to see bad basketball. He's talented, but Eugene German is not reason enough to attend a game. When it is year after year of bad basketball, why would the casual fan attend? Hell, you should see the open seats around me. I don't know if those people didn't renew or just don't attend.

Basketball has not been good. Each year I hope something will improve, and each year, I'm made a fool.

Look at the talent Cagy lists and how the talent at the start of the list (from 30 years ago) compares to today's talent.

It is not good, and changes are needed. So many changes are needed.

"Montyball" is not exactly exciting either. So-called good defense, with offense as an afterthought is not a recipe for fan loyalty.

We might be witnessing the transformation/death of Monty ball. I think Coach Monty is either slowly giving in or will be soon. He pretty much has to. Right now statistically, I have NIU as the worst defense in the MAC

Sorry sportsfan, but you are absolutely wrong!
Wisconsin hosted UW-Stout on Nov. 5 and it was an exhibition game for both teams.
Illinois played Eastern Illinois in Charleston and labeled it an exhibition.
The University of Mobile played South Alabama and it was labeled an exhibition.
Division I Mount St. Mary's hosted York College and labeled it an exhibition.
The above examples from a random search.

Go back into the archives of NIU's website and Monty's 2011-12 season begins with a 74-70 loss to Carthage College in a game labeled as an exhibition.
Last year, NIU counted the 95-69 win over Olivet Nazarene on Dec. 14, but ONU labeled it as an exhibition game and did not include it in any season recap. Regardless of how many Division I programs schedule and play "cupcakes", the statement "EVERY Division 1 team that plays any non-D1 counts the game" is factually wrong.
And if a school wants to waste "games" that count toward the allotted NCAA playing dates, at least agree on whether it's an exhibition or not. But even if you disagree with that and say it doesn't count and shouldn't matter, I guarantee you the NCAA tournament selection committee doesn't give a rip, but when those games are part of the "home" season ticket package, fans should care.

RE: NIU vs Rockford University
The season started Nov.10th. Games played before this were exhibition. You can play two exhibitions or have two scrimmages before that date thus Wisconsin vs Wisconsin Stout was a exhibition. Games played after that date are counted for d1 schools. This year you could play a third exhibition before that date if part of proceeds went to hurricane relief. NIU chooses to play the two scrimmages. This years Huskie schedule is fine for a MAC caliber team.

Dogfan - you have a lot of power if you are able to keep 4,000 fans away from a game by saying something in a post.
Now I know why Barksdale transferred, attendance for football is down and the Grotto closed.
