If you are talking about Gardner, that is not even close to the same situation. He might have played in 5 games here and had no chance at being the player Bryce was when he stepped onto the floor at Trask. I get that you are above the fray here but at least make a fair comparison . Gardner basically just wanted to go home as soon as he could get there-he was lucky Brownell would take him. Duggins was a decent player but never played here. Not to mention that the situation with Brad and Keatts could not have more different.
It doesn't matter that the situation with the coaches was different. It's all about how the moves affected the program. Both moves hurt. But, in Keatts' case, the program is in better hands to regroup and stay strong. We can whine about losing a player or we pull our britches up and take care of what we have control over.
Total crap, you are of course allowed to have your own opinion but the fact is Keatts pulled a BS move against the school that gave him a chance . I have zero respect for the guy and I am pulling for him to fail. You can go all PC if you want but I will go the other direction on this deal.
This is a little surprising given your faithful love for all things ACC.

RE: Keatts to NC State
Also, for the anti-Keatts crew...
In case you haven't been paying attention, Arizona lost AGAIN (3rd straight loss) this time to Purdue. Began the year ranked #2, losses to three straight unranked teams (NC State, SMU, and Purdue). Further reducing the value of Keatts' squad's upset win. So if you're keeping that tab, they beat an over rated and highly suspect Arizona team then lost to Northern Iowa and Tennessee. So the Keatts era at NC State isn't exactly off to dazzling success. Just throwing the haters a bone here. LOL

Not being PC. It's called being realistic. A word you have used countless times when it fit your agenda. Doesn't fit for now. And I don't think you respect anything associated with UNCW. Keatts' success here has kept you quiet. Now you think you have a chance once again two swoop in like a vulture. Don't get me wrong. There are times I think you have good things to contribute here. But then, it's like you just can't help yourself. And you're right. Just my opinion

I still don't get why people are mad at a young man for following the coach that recruited him. But I digress

Would you have considered it a bush league move if CJ were your son?

He’s not. But if he was I would have advised my son to stay at uncw vs going to a basement dweller acc team to ride the pine

You would have been closer to the situation to weigh what you would advise your kid. I personally think CJ made the wrong decision. But I don't know enough to know for sure that he really did make the right decision or not. Still, the final decision is all on CJ. Nobody held a gun to his head. Then again he came here mainly because of Keatts, not UNCW.

Perhaps if you have a son thats capable of playing division one basketball someday you can advise him of that then. Besodes, you do realize WE were bottom dwellers of the CAA prior to coach Keatts arrival and that CJ was a part of TWO regular season championships as well as two tournament champuonships during his time here.Perhaps he wanted to raise the bar a little.

Relax a little folks. No need to nip at each other's ankles over this. Remember everyone has their own opinions, no need to push things into the personal realm.

RE: Keatts to NC State
Keatts could have taken the high road and told the kid I can't do that simply because it's not how things should work.If he wants to leave UNCW he of course can but there are a ton schools who would take a kid with his talent. It's not a decision a grown man should have trouble making or advising a kid that he says he cares about. It also has nothing to do with the character of the player.
He is a really good player and I enjoyed watching him here last season. Good luck to the kid but not to the grown man in this case. Done-

So a "kid" should not be allowed to follow his mentor and the man that recruited him?
That line of thinking just baffles me, particularly when discussing young men seeking guidance and people they can trust

The Adidas/FBI deal is one thing that's getting ignored in this thread, except by Mullet!
We did not need that kind of problem hanging around here. You just know that Keatts is going to start getting calls regarding what was going on at Louisville.

I'm sure he already has! IMO that's part of the reason why he jumped at the first big deal. Take the money while he could. But that's just speculation.

Sour grapes or fake news? This is how some folks want to treat a man who put us back on the map?

Rick Pitino lost his job over the Adidas/FBI scandal. I'd say it's more than relevant to bring that up when discussing Keatts. More dominoes are set to fall. While he may have had nothing to do with any of that, just like he may have had nothing to do with the prostitution scandal at Louisville, he was still Pitino's top assistant and played a major role in the title they won that now has to be considered tainted.
And it's great what Keatts did here from a basketball perspective. I'm not even all that mad that Bryce followed him to NC State. But we don't need to worship the guy. We've always known UNCW is an attractive destination and that we are bigger than any one coach. The success of Wainwright and then Brownell here proved that. Success is what we expect. And Keatts would never have come here if he disagreed with that assessment. As much as he did for us in the 3 years here, he also has some reasons to be thankful for UNCW, too.
