As stated earlier, Georgetown is the ONLY program I can see as a potential equal. Sometimes a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush and I cant blame a fella for quadrupling his salary. The money at Georgetown appears to be even stronger than that of NC State, but it would have been a gamble to wait and see, ESPECIALLY given that the Hoyas ultimately decided to keep it in the family with the Ewing hire.

2017 isn't over, I'm counting 96 too. You don't think Ohio state is?
13 Trips, 3 final 4's(1 title game), 1 Elite 8, 2 sweet 16, 1 NIT title. You are right, it's NOT a comparison at all.

RE: Keatts to NC State
You are counting 1996 in a 20 year survey and we are weeks from 2018? Sorry 1996 doesn't count. As far as Ohio State, did you not read my post from several back? Ohio State is IRRELEVANT in discussing it as an option for coach Keatts as Thad Matta was their head coach until early June.....It would have been IMPOSSIBLE to predict that job would become vacant in March thus it can't even be brought into the discussion. Had Keatts waited until June for a good fit and NOT gotten the Ohio State job, where would he have been then?

RE: Keatts to NC State
It's possible Keatts is looking at Roy and coach K retiring soon. What would that do? We've seen Duke fall apart each of the two times K had to take a break from coaching due to health reasons. And maybe Keatts wanted to coach at State and the ACC for the challenge it presents. He's got ACC experience. Maybe he has a vision for success that he believes is right at State.
But, bottom line, it was his choice. Let's move on to focusing on the future success of UNCW. We apparently finally have a coach who wants to retire here. And if he can take this program to the next level , then we will be settled in for a long time.

Do you truly believe that? If he had success here and Roy retires and UNC came calling?

I know that's possible. But I also know there are a lot of guys on that replacement list. I do know that he has only applied for a head coaching job here in all the years he has been with Roy. And he did it twice. He said he didn't want to coach anywhere else. I understand money can be a big influence, but he has really liked the Wilmington area for some time.

I'd really say it would come down to timing...If coach McGrath has success here in 5 years or less, and some bigger names came after him waving big dollars, it would be hard to say no ...However if success here comes at a little slower rate, say 6-8 years then Im not sure how many "big" programs would want to roll the dice with a 50 something year old head coach. If that were the case, I could see him staying here for the remainder of his coaching career.

McGrath has stated he is not interested in a high profile job like UNC.

Stating that, and doing are two entirely different things. It's easy to say when you don't have that option. He's fairly young if he has success, he will leave like other have. He does have what appears to be a good staff, so, in theory we could be left in good hands even if that were to occur.

RE: Keatts to NC State
Keatts was a great hire for UNCW/Bass and even with what I know now, I'd take the three years he gave us. I'm remain hopeful that CB is the right hire and builds on what Keatts reignited (Wainwright started it).

With that said, I don't understand the need to revisit his tenure with every NCSU success, or more likely, every failure. I'd like to get a series scheduled with them, but beyond that, it's time to turn the page.

State losing to UNI after their "historic" win was the most State thing ever. They followed that up with a second loss to Tenn. Zona losing all three games and completely falling out of the top 25 was out of their control, obviously, but still very fitting. It's like being 6-1 and proclaiming this to be your best football team ever, and then losing 3 of the next 5 games. This is why lolstate is a thing.

In all seriousness, G'town is a better job than NCSU and would've been a great fit for Keatts. If I recall, he accepted the position at State before G'town fired JTIII.

Sorry CB. I was being cynical about the worshipping Keatts statement. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

No worries. I knew what you were saying. Someone else didn't realize they never posted the reply they thought they did. 03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao

They're still debatable because look at the quality of their conferences. The fact that NC State is a Tobacco Road school in the ACC, plays both Duke and UNC (And other ACC talent) twice a year, with the OPPORTUNITY to become relevant again in the best basketball conference in the country alone makes NC State a better option for Keatts and his style of play than those other schools. The ceiling is much greater. Has it been that way recently, no... that's not what I'm arguing. IMO the ceiling is LESS, because you are always in the Shadow of Duke and UNC. Running the other conferences IMO is a higher ceiling than being at BEST 3rd in the ACC(very much a stretch) When Roy and K retire, it could be higher but until then it is what it is.

I truly believe that is at most, 5 years from happening for both. I can't see either hanging on that long. Roy and K both have had health issues in recent years that have caused them to miss a little time. I think State knew that when they hired Keatts.

History tells us that he wasn't able to live up to the Sun Devils expectations either, and he was subsequently fired after 8-9 seasons there.

Come on man, everyone on this board knows that the fans wanted him gone. It was public knowledge, he got heat and chose to leave on his own. He did much better at NC state than he did at AZ. Clearly AZ State isn't as good of a job as NCSU, he wouldn't leave for that unless he was pushed out. So while the others "busted my balls" to you i say good try 05-mafia

RE: Keatts to NC State
It also seems that the last 8 coaches at NC State have an average tenure of 9 years....Almost double the 5 years that you stated. I get it....you despise NC State...Not sure if that was prior to them hiring coach Keatts or after. You got the Everybody in Raleigh wanted Sendek gone mantra from the local media outlets at the time that were predominantly UNC grads, and that LOVED stoking the fire with the Pack fanbase....Yes, there were some that weren't happy with Sendek, but the FACT remains that he left and was not "run out of town"
