Orange Mound is in the TDZ. But has no real access to the fairgrounds due to the Forest Yard. Almost, like someone designed it that way?

Tiger Lane spots are already being reallocated in January
Slaw was told 5k per spot (or some such ridiculousness)
Hard to imagine the normal fan willing to pay 100% increase for a regular parking pass.
I thought that was when the Big 12 was in the equation? Now that the possibility of that has ended, where is there any factual evidence about $5K a spot?
Keep in mind that number was thrown around almost a year ago. I'm sure things have changed since then, but I still expect the amount to go up.
Exactly. 5k is not really the point, the point is prices will go up next year, and i'm guessing it's going to be closer to exponential, rather than incremental.

Right, I would expect an increase as they've held prices somewhat steady since inception of TL.
I'd find it hard to believe they would charge $5K a spot (or several thousand in general) when we have 2-3 weekday kickoffs mixed in with our Saturday games. I don't mind paying what we do for our 3 spots in the HH section, however, if they dramatically increased the rates I could see how that'd turn people away or cause some frustration.

Bowen better be in the ear of the conference about scheduling of games. No one is going to pay that if our home schedule consists of 11 am start times and weeknight games.

RE: City to eliminate 2000 football parking spots at Liberty Bowl
from the city of Memphis site, Jan 20, 2015 tdz presentation
Won’t the project eliminate most of the parking needed for football games?
Planning for the project has been especially sensitive to the needs of the stadium and plans call for purchasing adjacent land for the parking of football fans. Prior to construction of Tiger Lane, there were 5,752 parking spaces, but after Tiger Lane, the number grew to 8,122. Once the Fairgrounds redevelopment is completed, there will be 9,130 parking spaces for football.

RE: City to eliminate 2000 football parking spots at Liberty Bowl
Parking spaces are absolutely vital to a gameday atmosphere. To be a true college football experience to lure Memphians to the game there has to be (a) a quality product on the field - which we currently have in a big-time way (b) something of a quality tailgating experience (which Tiger Lane provides) and © not too much walking (again, we're talking about Memphians).
Obviously, the weird start times impact (b) and ©. But at least the University receives extra revenue and national TV exposure. So, it's kind of a wash. This plan would make basically damage (b) and © to the point where maybe it would hurt (a).
Retail in the LB grounds?!?! Please, a total non-starter.

It would also give the school the responsibility for construction, maintenance and operational cost which it does not have to pay currently. The OCS crowd continues to point toward revenues generated but fail to include the cost of generating that revenue. City actually loses money each year operating the stadium, that is WITH three paying tenants. But that loss is offset by taxes generated in the city by the games being played. The school would have all the operating cost but would get ZERO benefit from tax dollars generated.

Keep in mind that the 2,000 spots being "taken away" are the non-paved spots where Libertyland used to be. These have been in use only a few years and cannot be used when it rains. They are also building a parking garage. I'm not overly concerned bout game day parking.

The Coliseum needs to go, after decades of trying to find a solution with none working out its time. Midtown could use a hotel and one at the fairgrounds could be a good idea. A couple of restaurant/bars would enhance game day experience. Traditional retail I just don't see working there. If all that could be done and keep the current number of parking spaces with a garage and using the space left from Coliseum demolition then that would be a workable idea.

The main bit of information that need to be brought to light with this plan is which friend of the administration is getting rich building this fiasco. All you need to do is drive along Central and East Parkway to know that this project would be doomed to fail from the start.
Someone is pocketing money from this deal and the question is who is getting a kick back from it.
What needs to be done is to go to the east side of the MSC between it and the LBS after the Libertybowl is over and build a three story parking garage on that lot. You will lose a few spots for maybe a year and hopefully it can be completed before the Liberty bowl is played the next year and you would end up with 600-1000 extra parking spots.
The reason they have chosen to mothball the MSC is that the inspections they had this year showed it was in far better shape than thought and would cost far less to upgrade that originally projected. So they are going to mothball it until it deteriorates tot he point it cannot be brought back.
Desoto county is bringing in money hand over fist taking shows that do not want to play FedEx Forum or who cannot afford to play there. The WWE developmental promotion NXT is coming to Memphis and will be at a converted bakery. This is just one of many shows that would not be a good fit for the Forum but would draw good crowds at a reopened MSC.

Yep. Should be fun trying to get out of a 500 space parking garage after a game. Not for me.

Shoot, just stay until the end of the game and you'll be the only car in the garage.

What exactly is there that would justify a hotel in that area? Cooper/Young??? You can drive five minutes in any direction from the fairgrounds and find either a operating Hotel or several which have been closed down due to non use. Mostly closed down.

Can't even get enough money for an IPF and people out here taking about building a stadium.
I agree. That's stupid. We should be happy with the Liberty Bowl.
But... If they want people to show up, they need a convenient and safe place to park. Not everyone is willing to walk from Tobey, and that pretty much fills up at 40K now.
I can see how this does anything but destroy attendance.
??
How far will you walk? If it's difficult for people to attend games, and tailgate. They won't go.
Memphis in general has held the belief that they will not take part in anything if it is too much of a bother. Look at the Red Birds. One of the best seasons in history and went to AAA title game and attendance was among the lowest in the PCL. Because it was too much of a bother to go down town to watch a baseball game. The mindset of the city as a whole is we want it as long as we do not have to make any kind of extra effort to get it.
