Some booing at meeting because new plan does not include Coliseum. Also eliminates 2,000 football parking spaces.

OCS gives the university control of their stadium venue...........pleased the city is doing something beneficial for the city with the fairgrounds. Coliseum needs to be demolished if not renovated & used.

The "plan" - which is all it is right now - would also spend 20 million for Liberty Bowl upgrades and add a 500-space parking garage.

also 1500 spots lost from the retail component on the Central side. no mention of how retail being open on game days would also affect parking. roughly 45% of current stadium parking spaces would be removed if this plan goes forward

So stupid. For what? Baseball fields that would never get used nor taken care of? Retail stores that would be robbed within the first month and tenants move out and go elsewhere? We've seen this rodeo a thousand times, and it won't change until leadership changes.

I've lived out of the city for nearly 10 years, so I'm out of the loop on most things civic in Memphis. That said, I thought Wiseacre Brewing was taking over the Coliseum...is that not the case anymore?

I think the numbers were not good so they passed.

on-campus - houston, smu, tulane, tulsa, cincinnati, ucf, ecu
not on-campus - memphis, usf, temple, uconn, navy?

i thought alcohol sales would be banned on-campus but the stadiums are selling alcohol

So just when Tiger football starts trending on the right path with increased attendance, the morons who run the city want to make it more difficult to attend the games.

less supply
more demand

Tiger Lane spots are already being reallocated in January
Slaw was told 5k per spot (or some such ridiculousness)

Hard to imagine the normal fan willing to pay 100% increase for a regular parking pass.

Can't even get enough money for an IPF and people out here taking about building a stadium.

I agree. That's stupid. We should be happy with the Liberty Bowl.

But... If they want people to show up, they need a convenient and safe place to park. Not everyone is willing to walk from Tobey, and that pretty much fills up at 40K now.

I can see how this does anything but destroy attendance.

How far will you walk? If it's difficult for people to attend games, and tailgate. They won't go.

They did their due diligence & the cost outweighed the benefits, so they passed on it.

This "plan" is terrible. Basically a rehash of Lipscomb's idea, which sucked to begin with. Glad to see the improvements to Tobey & updates for STEAM & Middle College HS, but the youth sports competition complex is a massive gamble.

....and the garage should have several floors added to make up for a chunk of the LB parking they're taking.

I thought that was when the Big 12 was in the equation? Now that the possibility of that has ended, where is there any factual evidence about $5K a spot?

Keep in mind that number was thrown around almost a year ago. I'm sure things have changed since then, but I still expect the amount to go up.

It's not even that. It's a waste of $$ from day 1. Those folks who organize competitive soccer, baseball and softball tournaments aren't gonna leave Mike Rose and Snowden Grove to play in Orange Mound
