We have a great team! With our offense, the Access Bowl and a Big 12 invite are just around the corner!

RE: I think "we" are good again
Am I the only one who still thinks Carey isn't good for the NIU football program? I know they are winning and his record is strong, but...there's something about this guy and his bootcamp style dress downs of mistakes, and the way he presents himself, that I associate with someone not ready to seriously lead any type of organization. Yeah, I have had bad bosses, and, eventually they crash and burn and leave alot of BS in their wake. I see this in Carey. Get rid of him, although I know the budget and contract won't allow; if another place wants to hire him, great, move on and don't bat an eye, we'll be better without him.

Nothing with the recent games has changed my thinking.

Yeah I'm never seen Saban yell at his players. I hear he's a pretty good coach. As long as the players play hard for him and their teammates there are no issues.

They're 5-2 now and their only losses were 1 play games against one of the best teams in the group of 5 and what looks like a pretty decent Boston College team.

I'm not sure what else you need to see.

Those qualify as good losses. But what are the good wins? Nebraska may go 6-6. Maybe. But I'm guessing 5-7. That's a decent win, but is a sub .500 big 10 team win what we count as good? EIU, kent, buff and BG don't really put a feather in your cap. I think this team is good. But I'll need to see Childers win a game when they need him before I start thinking MACC.

Actually I wouldn't be surprised if Nebraska goes 7-5, with 3 of their losses to top 10 teams. Purdue, NW, MN, IA isn't a murderer's row; only NW is even .500 in B1G.

For Comparison Penn State is 32-2, and Michigan is 23-1 against the MAC all time. Being 1 of those wins seem more bragable in our footprint.

Yeah I'll take Alabama and Nebraska over Michigan and Penn State. All time AP rankings have Bama #2, Nebby #7, while OSU #3 and PSU #10. National championships tell the same story, with Bama having the most in the modern era.

Personality, sideline demeanor, player development means zero if your record is good, and his is. It will get you fired quicker when your record is bad.

Not many in the MAC would... UM is 45 minutes from us so being 1-0 All time vs. Them is envious for all directional michigans and probably everyone else in the conference. We also won 4 games that year, making it the worst Toledo team in 40 years.

Alabama had an okay season when you won that game, but ended up just above .500 right? The same with 2000 Penn State. Penn State much closer to its hayday than Alabama who is enriched in past 10 years success.

We also beat Larry Fitz and #9 Pitt in 2003. Not as good of a historical comparison but a top 10 team with a key NFL hall of famer to brag about.

Oh, so your point isn't Michigan and PSU are better than Bama and Nebby, but rather EMU fans would rather beat UM than Bama. Yeah I guess, whatever.

Carey is 0-4 in bowl games and 1-3 in the MACC. We've been good under him? I guess that depends on your metric of what 'good' actually means.

He's 1-2 in MACCs. In 2015 with QB injuries he really had no chance.

The bowl record doesn't bother me. They're fun exhibitions. Sure they're nice to win but I wouldn't trade 1 win over Toledo for 4 bowl wins.

You mean by literally any metric other than this one?

41-21 overall
29-6 in MAC play
4-1 vs the Big Ten

If you think NIU can fire carey and just bring anyone in to do better, you’re a fool.

When you consider that 1 of those 4 bowl losses is the Orange Bowl, I would trade that 1 win for 4 Toledo wins any day.

You're using the same argument for Nebraska that 7 did for NIU. Quality losses. Nebraska has no quality wins either. So There's no reason to think Nebraska is better than NW, MN, IA or Purdue because those teams all lost to OSU,wisc, penn st and MSU as well. Or each other. Nebraska and NIU both need a few more conference games to gauge where they're at. But I feel NIU is in better shape than Nebraska to finish. Neb goes 2-3. NIU goes 4-1

Don't get me wrong. The Nebraska win is a great historical victory. Just not sure it's a great measuring stick. Many here, myself included, hammered WMU for using its win over 6-6 NU as their marquee victory last season.

When you are a MAC school and compare NIU's resources to Nebraska, I would say it is a measuring stick win.

This version of Nebraska would handle every MAC team with the exception of NIU, Toledo, and MAYVE Ohio. They’re not good but they’re not terrible either.
