I explained it to asuwon...

Only five teams in the power FCS conferences (the Citadel, VMI, Furman, Wofford, and Cal Poly) to my knowledge run the option. The offense that we won a record 6 national championships with.[/B] It's a false assumption that schools are going to run the offensive scheme that's best for their program. If that were true the option would proliferate more in the lower divisions.

You won with the option because of one thing. Most secondaries in IAA are slow and can't slide side to side. Therefore they can't play good gap coverage. When you went up against the best of the best in IA you usually came out a loser.

Lets go back to GA Southern entering the SoCon in 1993, in 4 years the option scored a whopping 43 points on Marshall (13, 10, 7, 13) that's less than some scores you would put up on VMI or Western Carolina at times in a single game. And why did you score so lil. Our corners, LBs and safeties where fast and could slide. Same happened/s when you go up against the people from Boone or more recently when you went up against NDSU.

Also you can't just go out and recruit athletes anymore and just plug and play in IA, to even think about playing the option in IA you will have to get skill people at each position, including your OL. And why, because those fast secondaries in IAA is just a common thing in IA even at the non power 5 level.

this makes sense. explains why the option offense is never used in the NFL, as well as the FBS.

The option has been used plenty in both the NFL and the FBS. Ever heard of Michael Vick? The only reason NFL teams don’t like using it is because it makes your QB have to run more and open himself up to being hit more which could lead to more injuries. NOT because it’s easy to defend with a fast defense.

Fake news

Vick ran the option read. Just like Dak, Kap, Cam etc.

That ain’t running the triple.

I know. Isn’t he Marshall fella arguing that the triple generally doesn’t work at the FBS or NFL level though?

I’m not reading closely here. Just chiming in on an occasional post to bust balls.

Also.. since we are talking about offenses here... how about we look the YPP of folks that commented here.

These are numbers vs FBS competition for this year.

Silly Option Teams:
Army: 5.58
Navy: 6.67
GT: 6.11

Only NFL Players Play Here:
Marshall: 5.46
Georgia State: 5.67
App State: 5.31
Ark State: 6.01

Hate to break to you folks.. but a well crafted option team* will be competitive in the SBC and the G5. Frankly.. with the P5 stacking cards against the SCB/G5.. competing for the SCB Title and SBC Bowl on an annual basis is just fine with me.. and the TO can do that just fine.

*2017 Georgia Southern is in no way a well crafted option team. Its basic AF.

You and your pesky statistics and facts.

I hope y'all keep it. We are 2-1 against whatever version you want to call it. You are the only team we have a winning record against in FBS play. Where do I donate to keep the hope alive?

You guys are really doing pretty decent on offense. It's not Chadwell's fault you don't have a QB. And it's certainly not his fault your defense isn't good.

Brian Bohannon from KSU would be a great choice for GS. Runs the right offense for GS and apparently knows how to recruit and win.

I would be shocked if we get another guy from the PJ tree while we have our current AD. The word is out.
