Nice comments about the newest coaching staff member as well.

RE: Fall Ball (Baseball) Has Begun
Does anyone know what's ailing Trei Cruz? He's missed the last 3 intrasquads and hasn't played since early last week.
BTW, for those not following, pitching continues to dominate over the offense as we reach the half-way point of Fall Ball. Jefferies and Sllber each posted another strong outing yesterday. Interestingly, Schragger (our sidewinder RHP) has already appeared in 5 games. He's got to cut down on the walks, but it appears he's being groomed to be a "situational righty". Garcia saw his first action in yesterday's intrasquad, but still no Amador or Esquivel....and, of course, Salinas and Petitte won't be ready until Spring.
On offense, perhaps the surprise so far of Fall Ball has been the consistent hitting of Cody Staab. I could see him platooning as the left-hand hitting option in one of the corner outfield spots.

I, for one, am really happy to see the pitching dominate during fall ball. The hitting will come around. The pitching was the gas can on the fire last year. If that improves and the hitting does indeed come around, this can be a really good team. Its a tough schedule but that's fine by me.

Thanks.
Pitching is dominating despite the fact that 3 of our best returning arms (Salinas, Amador, Esquivel) have yet to see action, and may not until January.

42 free passes (BB + HBP) and 80 K in 101.1 IP isn't exceptional. I realize some of the guys further down the depth chart are responsible for a lot of those walks. But we need the pitchers to throw strikes and the fielders to make plays.
I like that Kravetz, Partha, Moss, and Jefferies have combined to throw 34.2 IP with only 4 free passes. That gives me hope (if the other guys return from injury by the spring).

Didn't one of the TE's in football throw 92 in high school and strike out like 700,000 hitters?

Jackson Tyner has a perfect game profile and was a pitcher in high school. Not sure how good he was though.
edit: apparently was 12-1 as a senior (with some games left to play).

Tyner was good. Threw low 90's in HS.

This is from 4 years ago. He was supposed to play both football and baseball. Not sure what happened.
I'm willing to bet Bailiff wouldn't let him as it would have required missing Spring Practice. DB has NEVER been supportive of two-sport athletes on football scholarship.

Unfortunately, neither Kravetz or Parthasarathy have been able to get anyone out this Fall....and Jackson hit a couple batters yesterday. (Then again, Evan was our best and most consistent pitcher last Fall, yet couldn't get anyone out-- or throw strikes consistently-- during actual Spring games, so who knows.)

New and improved Evan Kravetz today: 4.0 IP, 2 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk, 2 K, 7 ground outs.
I wonder if The OG and Coach Pope made a tweek in his mechanics.

That's a fantastic line. We desperately need a reliable lefty for various bullpen situations. Evan has potential. In fact, as gigantic as he is, I think he's got a ton of velocity left in the tank. Not many "crafty lefties" that are the size of a small high-rise.

Back-to-back dominant 4-inning shutout outings by Canterino-- 1 hit, 8 Ks, 2 BBs last week; 2 hits, 7 Ks, 0 BBs today. If Matt can consistently throw stirkes he can be a true Friday night ace for us.

Never let the facts get in the way of the narrative..
Recent two-sport (football) athletes: Ryan Lewis, Michael Fuda, Pierre Beasley, Donte Moore, Chance Tolbert, Sam McGuffie and on and on. Bailiff has been the most supportive coach for two-sport athletes Ive seen at Rice.
