We aren't any city. 6M. And that power conference team hardly enjoys popular support outside of alumni. First game in the new stadium was a sellout and we haven't played game two yet. Let's see how this plays out. Again, a lot of irony in this coming from a city school in n Gator land.

I hope you mean Gator land amusement park. Gainesville is probably a 2.5 hour drive from ucf. We are a school that draws around 40k in most games with a budget over 60 million. The Ga State question is legit that it is near impossible to do a startup when a power team already exists in the same city. You're fighting for attention when Ga Tech is going to get 99% in your city.

Wrong...the Falcons and Georgia get the most attention, then Georgia Tech and if there's any more attention left to be had, State, Southern, Kennesaw and high schools will get it. That's if Alabama and other SEC/ACC schools don't get their share and I'm sure they do.

If Ga. State was gonna carve a niche, then they couldn't do it by stumbling out the gates by losing to a, at best, middle-tier FCS school.

You don't live here. What are you talking about.

It's

We have 53k students and 140k alumni locally. The first game again was a selllout. I'll take our upside especially given the $400M being poured into the former Turner Field.

But again thanks for your interest in GSU

I have family who are Tech alumni and big fans of Tech football. I can confirm - this is their opinion, mind you - that Tech doesn't have a lot of support outside their alumni. Even a lot of their student base too. The Dawgs dominate the Atlanta market. Atlanta is also such a melting pot, you get fans of so many different other schools, so there's a ton of Big 10, other ACC, and other SEC fans too.

That being said: Tech is still a pretty respectable P5 school, and I do agree that'll make it hard for State.

(Do you have pics of that sold-out Turner Field? Would love to see it!) (Any sold-out G5 stadium - especially in downtown Atlanta - is a good thing)

There are 6M and many with no real team affiliation. Plenty of folks who are not Georgia or GT fans who have some affinity for GSU whether because their kid is/was a first generation student there or because it's the city school. People are buying tickets this year just to see the stadium or just out of curiosity. You really don't have to get that many of them to be successful. Atlanta is a simple town. Win and you're a darling. Lose and nobody wants anything to do with you. Braves are a sea of empty seats. You can't get into an Atlanta United game. Braves used to be darlings.

Stop it, no one in Atlanta cares about GSU. You might as well try to argue North Texas matters in Dallas or San Jose State in San Francisco.

I'm actually agreeing with you on a few points. Tech doesn't have this stranglehold on Atlanta, despite being the local P5. They may be 'across the street', but they're not the go-to event in Atlanta, so that does allow State to get a grab on the market.

Also agree with you on: they have to win. Same as anywhere, really, but especially true in the melting pot of Atlanta.

Personally, I'd love to see you guys do well, G5 team to G5 team. My Broncos actually have a series coming up with you guys (begins next year I think). We just finished a series with GA Southern last year (they won at their place, we won at ours) and got you guys next year. Don't understand all the hate you're getting, but they're right in some ways because it IS going to be HARD to sell out that stadium every game. But the city is large and diverse enough to get near-max so long as they're pretty good.

Not under any illusions but do find it hilarious that city school fans in cities where most fans are either B12 or SEC fans cannot see the irony of their statements. But we have had big crowds. We have taken thousands of fans to a bowl game and to a NCAA tournament game. When we win people pay attention.

RE: All Things GSU
GSU definitely has potential to pick up casual fans in Atlanta. It is a UGA town for sure but the demographics for GSU, which draws heavily from Atlanta as opposed to Tech which draws many from out of state, leaves an opening for GSU in such a large metro. Also, there are class divisions. GTech has elite and wealthy students, UGA is more country old school southern, and GSU is more urban Atlanta metro.

Let's see....Atlanta has....

Falcons - NFL
Braves - MLB
Hawks - NBA
United - MLS
Dream - WNBA
Thrashers - NHL
Ga. Tech - NCAA (P6 Team)

Not much else remaining space for those that want to watch low end football. Same problem that FIU has some let's start a thread about them being awesome. Unless you're going to offer $5 tickets and free beer. It will be a tough task in Atlanta unless you can shut down Ga. Tech and maybe the Falcons.

Good to know. I did a google search of Atlanta and that name popped up. Ironically so did Ga. Tech but no Ga. State.

Yeah we are a covert organization with 6 campuses and 53k students, 140k local alumni and own a former Olympic and MLB stadium next to an interstate where 1M cars a day pass by. Shhhh...don't tell anyone.

Sell your Ga. State propaganda to Atlanta. They need to show up to watch some sunbelt football over the ACC Ga. Tech or Falcons.

RE: All Things GSU
Your point?

You post a pic from the away side of a stadium we no longer play in and I post a current pic of our new stadium and now you're posting UCF videos????

To quote Shrek, someone is overcompensating...

Why can't GA State and Directional Florida BOTH draw well?

That was when State went 0-12, 1-11? I know they were pretty bad first making that transition from FCS to FBS. Any team finish like that, they're going to draw a small crowd. Even the diehards get restless then. They played inside too - and no one likes that for NCAA Football.

Thrashers - NHL
Ga. Tech - NCAA (P5 Team)

Not much else remaining space for those that want to watch low end football. Same problem that FIU has some let's start a thread about them being awesome. Unless you're going to offer $5 tickets and free beer. It will be a tough task in Atlanta unless you can shut down Ga. Tech and maybe the Falcons.
You do realize the NHL no longer has team in Atlanta?

Good to know. I did a google search of Atlanta and that name popped up. Ironically so did Ga. Tech but no Ga. State.

It's already been noted: Tech isn't THE school in Atlanta. You don't really have to shut them down, you just have to perform well yourself. There really isn't one school that can totally claim it. I mean, obviously Tech's a P5 with a huge fanbase, but they're no UGA. Fighting the SEC and other ACC schools - not just Tech - is State's biggest hurdle.

Already been noted: Thrashers relocated to Winnipeg a few years ago. Do some research before you want to chime in.

I'd also add, about that list, Braves are largely done when NCAAF starts, WNBA - you're grasping at straws - and Hawks are just really getting going when NCAAF is on its way out.
