ODU had the best Dline in football a couple of weeks ago.....

Not one person said anything close to this.

Really...

ODU D-LINE

C-USA better watch out.

Since that statement ODU has been outscored 91-23 (UNC 53-23, VA Tech 38-0).

So someone saying the DL is pretty damn good and that the CUSA better watch out = the best DL in football? And the scores are not directly related to how well (or bad) the DL has played. The DL is going to be pretty tough to block in CUSA.

Teams match up differently; different motivations, different situations, etc.

Baylor is terrible this year. Doesnt mean they are going to get blown out every game.

How does a team with a P5 affiliation and top players and playoff aspirations fall so far so fast?

When the scandal went down last year there was mass exodus of all their good recruits, they basically have CUSA level freshman and recruits now. It is going to be a tough road for Baylor.

It was funny to see Liberty fans pump their chest over beating a team that has been decimated, only to lose to FCS school two weeks later.03-lmfao

I think Baylor will go 0-12 maybe 1-11 with a win over Kansas, a shell of its former self.

Unfortunately beating Baylor this year will not help UTSA any with the pollsters

That's a flat out lie and easy to verify. They had the 40th ranked class in 2017, which was good enough for 5th in the Big 12 and is like 20 spots higher than the highest ranked CUSA class (FAU).

Baylor Down to 1 commit for 2017 recruiting class:
https://sportsday.dallasnews.com/college...ting-class

https://www.sbnation.com/college-footbal...iles-fired

https://www.sbnation.com/college-footbal...n-oklahoma

The Baylor program has been absolutely decimated.

Baylor will play the 2016 season with only 70 Scholarship players:
http://www.sportingnews.com/ncaa-footbal...rixqj8gezy

Baylor agrees to release 5 2016 Football Signees:
https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nc.../86313342/

Surely you knew this stuff?

Nice articles from over a year ago. There were still 8 months until signing day at the time of those articles. They regrouped and went on to have the 40th best class in the nation--which again is very easy to verify.

I get that they took a big step back but let's not make things up to make it seem worse than it was.

ODU still have games left with

Western 23.3
Middle 15.8
Rice 12
UNCC 11.3
FIU 15.7
Marshall 24

so plenty enough chances for that D-Line to look great. The way it's gone so far they don't really have to be good at all to look great in those games

We'll see if ODU's line is as good as Vandy's or Minnesota's.

I bet I already know. Vandy's d-line is the best I've seen in the past five years sans Bama two years ago.

I doubt anyone has said ODU's line is as good as Vandy or Minnesotas. (Though I know nothing about Minnesota, just assuming)

Well, if it's not then you probably aren't beating MT. Brent will be back by then.

But then again you already knew that without me telling you. The curse shall carry on.

I'd put UTSA's dline vs ODU any day of the week. Hopefully we can see that this year. :)

When I think of D-Line it's rushing....

1 UTSA 93
2 Western Kentucky 111.8
3 Florida International 114.3
4 Middle Tennessee State 114.3
5 Southern Mississippi 119.3
6 North Texas 124.3

AVG per carry

1 Middle Tennessee State 2.9
2 UTSA 3
3 North Texas 3.1
4 Florida International 3.1
5 Western Kentucky 3.4
6 Marshall 3.5
7 Southern Mississippi 3.7
8 Old Dominion 3.9

If I get the time I will do a deviation from what the total and avg is for the teams played

RE: Week 5 CUSA "power" rankings
To actually have a DL that is anything more than swiss cheese is so refreshing. Tommy West just hasn't had a chance to ruin all the new guys yet.

And the DL has done that against the SEC, Big 10 and ACC. Of course only allowing 1 yard against Bowling Green helped skew the numbers.

That is interesting and I admit i haven't seen UTSA much at all this year. You guys were 68th adjusted sack rate last year (ODU 31st). UTSA was a little better in run defense/stuffs.

The UTSA DL ranked 53 in Havoc rate and I hear Davenport is very good. The strength ODU has is they run 8-9 deep without much dropoff. Excited for conference play.....would love to meet you guys again 02-13-banana

Rushing isn't a good indicator because it can be LBs or secondary missing gaps/tackles. The DL's primary role in run defense is creating havoc/tackles for losses.

Yea that is what I was alluding to. Possibly seeing each other in CUSA champ game. 04-rock What's crazy is that UTSA is averaging 9 TFLs a game this year. The team is designed to stop the run but super dangerous and often get in the backfield during passing downs, hurries. Davenport is now a beast, packed on some serious muscle and is now a 6'7 250 grown man.

If you like x's and o's you should take a quick look at this from SWC roundup (cover's Texas teams) Great video examples of UTSA's dline.

UTSA could be for real but the schedule is pretty easy the rest of the way until they go on the road and play La. Tech.....UTSA could be the 2016 version of ODU from last season, but we will see....Could be legit but based on the schedule its hard to tell....Will get a little better picture how they stack up at least when they play Southern Miss. at home next week...

Agree. I don't think any of us are calling to run the table this year. Conference play is a different animal and several games (S. Miss, UNT, LaTech) have me a bit nervous. Other than that, we got a great schedule draw this year not having to face ODU, WKU or MTSU. Also throw in UTEP and Rice which are both fielding one of their worst teams in many years.
