RE: Week 1 SBC Power Ranking
#1:Coastal Carolina (W, Umass)
(Though Umass is a mess of a program right now, still FBS and as such by default this makes the Chants win the best one out of everyone else for week 1)
#2: LaLa (W, SE Louisiana)
(Southeastern Louisiana, while having stumbled somewhat within the last season and two, still has been a factor in the Southland Conference Title race in recent years and I would still rank them over the remaining opponents the following two have beaten...)
#3: Idaho (w, Sacramento State)
(Sacramento State isn't very good, but they play in the stiff Big Sky and certainly would put them ahead of...
#4: Texas State (W, Houston Baptist)
(This might be as high as the Bobcats get on my power rankings all season, and that's only because they won, even if it was an ugly victory against a still pretty young Huskie football program)
**Now I consider both the opponents played as well as overall performance**
#5: Arkansas State
(Despite coming up short, the Red Wolves put on an entertaining shower and certainly had the Huskers on the ropes. Can't remember the last time I felt this good about Astate coming off a lost).
#6: New Mexico State
(Aggies gave the Sun Devils all they could handle, out-gaining ASU by nearly 150 yards, but two critical turnovers and 6 penalties for 59 yards compared to the 'Devils 1 for 10 proved to be the difference maker)
#7 App State
(To be fair, Georgia is a beast of a team, but taking into consideration the hype for App and its personnel, felt Mountaineers didn't quite live up to the initial expectations as they were shut out for three quarters before struggling to score 10 in the 4th).
#8: ULM
(The Warhawks struggled out of the gate and while Memphis connected with big plays and big haymakers early, ULM kept chugging along making it a game late but the rally coming too late. Despite 4 turnovers, ULM showed flashes of vast improvement)
#9Troy
(It certainly was an entertaining game for the most part, despite Brandon Silvers and the Trojan offense having a rather dud performance on the day, only amounting to 215 total offensive yards.)
#10 South Alabama
Very much a tale of two halves as the Jags initially made it competitive with Ole Miss, only down three at halftime before getting crushed in the 3rd and never threatened again. Considering the drama the Rebels were carrying into this game, would've thought Jags could've kept this one a little bit closer for a little bit longer than they did)
#11 Georgia Southern
(Again to be fair, kinda sucks to test out your retooled/rejuvenated offense against a team like Auburn but man...it was not a pretty return to the option game for the Eagles: 78 TOTAL OFFENSIVE YARDS...78. Tyson Summers and company in Statesboro better have a big blow out performance Saturday against New Hampshire or the seat maybe torched by GSU Fans before it even gets heated)
#12: Georgia State
(New head coach, debut of the new stadium, seemingly a whole new era in Panthers football history and you lose to Tennessee State, who never had beaten an FBS team prior to their upset of Georgia State. To make it worse, Panthers struggled to chug out 273 offensive yards and only 49 of those came on the ground. While their's still 11 games remaining, kinda hard to have any optimism at this point for Ga. State).
