What bowl tie-ins would NMSU be eligible for with 6+ wins? Do they have any official arrangements?

They will have to hope that some bowl will be short of qualifiers, like UMass and Liberty.

Fairly safe bet lately.

I tought, i read MWC wanted to bring in NMST as 12 BB. NMST Pres did such poor presatation that MWC droped it

Sun Belt does not make sence, Coastal Car is # 12, now they can have CCG. CFP max out at 10 m
surely CCG makes 2 m, would help with bowl eligablty also.

MWC will help out with FB sch, conf might need another school [partuclurly if it's NM] if somebody moves on

Fairly safe bet lately.

Also, the rule is no 5-win teams get bowl invites until all the 6+ win teams are placed.

OTOH, do all the FCS and Transitioning FBS (Liberty) wins count toward the six?

Liberty counts as an FBS opponent in 2018. Teams may count one FCS opponent towards the six-win minimum provided the opponent awards a minimum of 57.5 scholarships. A win over a second FCS opponent or non-counting FCS program places a team with six wins in one of the top two provisional categories of bowl eligibility:

https://www.cbssports.com/college-footba...the-bowls/

Liberty would fall in the fourth category whether they are 6-6 or 12-0 for the 2018 season. The same would apply to Coastal Carolina this year.

NMSU has a bowl tie in with the New Mexico Bowl. But they need to do something they haven't been able to do in 60 years.... Become bowl eligible.

In surprised they only had one P5 on the schedule. I would have thought they would have at least had three games to bring in some money.

No they don't. It's a MW vs CUSA match up.

Yeah, the dropping of the max from $12 million to $10 million definitely hurt anyone trying to get into the Belt, or any other G5 conference for that matter.

Maybe you can explain that to some CSN posters who are still under the impression that G5 leagues should add more FCS schools.

My understanding is that there is a provision that if either UNM or NMSU has at least 7 wins and is not in another bowl they are assured of a berth in the New Mexico Bowl. I am not sure which of the normal conference participants would get bumped.

Things may change in 2025, when the current CFP contract expires. But one reason (besides distance) that the Sun Belt did not renew their affiliation with Idaho and NMSU -- and why it's not adding any more football members beyond its current 10 -- is because more teams now means less CFP money for each one. And since conferences no longer need 12 teams for divisions or a championship game, there's no reason for them to add more.

I feel bad for them, but they were NOT mistreated. Remember, NMSU was a full member of the Sun Belt and then left when it suited them. It left the Belt in a bad way.

It may change in 2025 but I doubt it. TV money is drying up. The P5 will take everything they can get. If there is any change coming, allowing for a school like NMSU to get an invite to a G5 league, there will need to be expansion in the P5 which opens up a spot. Till that happens, NMSU and others will have to stay Independent or drop down to FCS.

No...you must be thinking of the Hawaii bowl, where Hawaii gets the bowl if they are eligible and not in a NY6 bowl.

Great schedule for them. Liberty twice is not ideal but they managed only one P5 opponent which is impressive.

Good on them for fighting and not dropping down like cowards.
