and if it's UCF's stadium?
Those resident's fault for choosing to buy right next to a university that was inevitably going to expand. They wanted cheap land and they got it because UCF existed. They want all of the benefits, but none of the drawbacks.

Glad UCF largely told them to go pound sand and built a serviceable stadium, with room for expansion to over 60k, anyway.

Right? Neighborhood and liberal college activists at Temple act like the University moved in from another state and decided to plop their campus smack in the middle of North Philly. Temple has been there since 1884, long before the current surrounding communities.

Thank you. Wish more people thought in these terms. +3 for you!

03-lmfao most of the people protesting Temple's stadium probably live in public housing.

That and art majors who think this is some sort of racist agenda to gentrify Templetown.

No they are private homes owned or rented. The stadium would require closure of one or two streets, disrupting traffic flow, would require major underground utility installation and re-routing, and there is no room for parking. No parking. Major disadvantage compared to USF which has much more acreage. The feasibility study will cover costs, parking, site infrastructure and modifications, code and permits, etc if it is done right. Not sure it is complete. There has been no release to the public as of yet, and I am not sure the board has seen it yet. Not sure there is overwhelming fan support at this point.

.

This story which came out today seems to disagree with you. Most people around Temple do NOT own their own homes.

Maybe putting in a stadium and revitalizing the area will get rid of the trash living around Temple.

A person with a little drive and common sense would see this as an opportunity to make $$$.

My point was if it's 'your teams' stadium that's one thing...if it's 'the enemy' then that could change your opinion.

They are students and local property owners who simply want a say in something that could affect their property values or tuition cost.

I can see both sides point...but I'm not biased unlike some.

I do love people commenting on a neighborhood from hundreds of miles away. This will end well.

Things had gotten real ugly between Temple and a community protest group. Understand that everything gets protested in Philly. Temple had to battle local politicians and payout $15 million for some pet community project in order to get the bball arena.
Deja vu all over again but now the protestors seem almost like pros.
The local state rep arranged this meeting and his attitude seems to be that things can be negotiated.
Many long time football supporters such as myself feel that the university has no choice but to build. We had an average of 26k fans in an expensive huge 70k pro stadium far from our campus last season. That's despite having a conf champion team and being ranked at one point.
the "community".... sucks.

Right now, I think that's the main site. I'm not sure there's anywhere better.

Is there actually residential around Geasey Field? Who owns those townhouses on West Norris?

what's the harm in meeting and listening?

I agree with the notion of "it's Temple's land and they should be able to do what they like with it"

but if that stadium hurts someones property value, or cause a tuition increase...I can at least see why some neighbors and students may be concerned.

I try to see both sides, but I'm on the pro-new stadium side of this fight...Temple needs an OCS.

Why doesn't temple buy the land then and add dorms or something there? Students aren't going to care and most won't have cars to worry about the road being closed.
