Things had gotten real ugly between Temple and a community protest group. Understand that everything gets protested in Philly. Temple had to battle local politicians and payout $15 million for some pet community project in order to get the bball arena.
Deja vu all over again but now the protestors seem almost like pros.
The local state rep arranged this meeting and his attitude seems to be that things can be negotiated.
Many long time football supporters such as myself feel that the university has no choice but to build. We had an average of 26k fans in an expensive huge 70k pro stadium far from our campus last season. That's despite having a conf champion team and being ranked at one point.
NIMBY-ism is nothing new.

It's why Tulane's stadium is low profile on one side.

meet with em and make it clear the projects going forward without their input or with it...so if they want a say, here's their shot.

(notice the nice BIG homes that back up to the visitor's side of the stadium...they are why that side is so low.)

I'm not saying Temple doesn't need their own stadium, but it's complete bull**** that Temple has to pay so much to use a stadium that was built with over 50% public funds.

I would love it if someone subsided the home prices in my family's neighborhood. I'm from the wrong side of the city, Frayser.

There was a Temple poster on Rivals who used to post "Philly Pro $ports". That sums it up.

Quite a difference between Philly and Pittsburgh, where the Steelers and Pitt embrace the sharing of resources. Complete reluctance on the Eagles part to have Temple using the stadium.
Buying a home near a university is asking for it.

Right? Neighborhood and liberal college activists at Temple act like the University moved in from another state and decided to plop their campus smack in the middle of North Philly. Temple has been there since 1884, long before the current surrounding communities.

Exactly what we did.
"We are buying the stadium and the land. We are renovating the stadium and bringing retail and residential to the surrounding area. Your alternative is we don't buy it and we do not build up the surrounding area."
What often happens is that these protest groups are a mninority of residents and when you meet with the ACTUAL residents and educate them the problem slowly dissipates. We still had to this. It helps hough if you have the backing of local busness abd government.

Is there a proposed site and are their houses directly across from the site on any side?
Who the **** do these people think they are? They don't own the property. Typical bunch of leeches looking for a handout.

03-lmfao most of the people protesting Temple's stadium probably live in public housing.

No they are private homes owned or rented. The stadium would require closure of one or two streets, disrupting traffic flow, would require major underground utility installation and re-routing, and there is no room for parking. No parking. Major disadvantage compared to USF which has much more acreage. The feasibility study will cover costs, parking, site infrastructure and modifications, code and permits, etc if it is done right. Not sure it is complete. There has been no release to the public as of yet, and I am not sure the board has seen it yet. Not sure there is overwhelming fan support at this point.
