a). there is still time to get a home game for 2019
b). i'd rather see us travel to Fl State (or Auburn or Tenn, or Texas A&M, etc.) and make $3 million to help pay / keep a competent coaching staff.
c). its not like anyone's going to come watch us play Savannah State anyway

I have no problem being embarrassed at times....I know me....
watch how this one plays out......consider this one bookmarked...
weren't you the one that posited going indy?
I broached that one 6 years ago during the first roll-out of realignment....

To get paid, much in the same fashion we've done 1-game-there-only deals with an endless list of other teams. Stop looking at it as 2-for-1 and look at it as a 1-and-1 plus a payday.
Quote:If we can do home and homes with Kentucky, UVA, Kansas, and BYU then why can't MSU?
The only reason Kentucky is coming is because they got painted into a corner when UAB dropped football and left a hole in their schedule at the last minute. We had a metric sh*t ton of leverage in that deal that we've never had before with an SEC school and probably won't ever have again.
and as Harbor just said, its not a 2 for 1. we are getting paid to play there in 2019 (like we get paid to play several other places), and then its a Home/Home after that in back to back years. stop being a whiny ***** about this.

So you're saying MSU is going to pay USM 2mill for our first trip up there??? I DOUBT IT. We can get 2 mill easy from the LSU's/Bama/Auburns/Tenn of the world. If state isn't paying us 2mill for that "pay game" then we are weak. I'd rather us go play Texas or Ohio State or Penn State and get 2mill. We've got a better chance at beating them then Alabama or LSU.

I would be fine playing three SEC schools like Oui used to at their place or a neutral field. Small time is what Oui are now. I will stick with the three As.

The two schools announced Tuesday a deal that will send the Golden Eagles to Starkville on Sept. 7, 2019, for a guarantee game. They also announced a home-and-home agreement that pits Southern Miss at Mississippi State on Sept. 23, 2023, and the Bulldogs in Hattiesburg on Sept. 14, 2024. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. -Hattiesburg American
If you want to file a FOIA request to see how much the check is going to be, have at it.
Here's the problem...our fans/administration are so friggin obsessed with any and everything SEC that we make these crap deals like a 2 for 1 vs a bottom feeder SEC team. Okay, so you say it's a 1 for 1 plus a money game? Then let's take the 1 for 1 and take our money game to the Texas' and Michigans of the world and actually get some REAL money AND national attention while we're at it....not no 650k "money game" from state.

ummm, we are already playing Alabama in 2019, dingbat. also, did it ever occur to you that those other teams you mentioned may already have a full / set schedule for 2019?

Good lawd......what's done is done. No use cryin over this. The only real thing of interest remaining is the buyout for the 2024 game once the specifics are released. Our home scheduling philosophy going forward is to get games with Memphis, Tulane, regional teams going forward and one payday game on the road......just like old times.
