Looks like Phase 1 is on schedule.

Will people be interested enough around the beach to fill the seats? I know App will fill the place just because of proximity and App hasn't had a drive-able conference game since the last SoCon season. It just seems like a lot more room for the same number of people to attend; without extended media coverage to generate any hype among locals, I just don't understand how it will be filled up.

FWIW, it is far more aesthetically pleasing than before the corners were closed in.

Well considering for the last 3 years we have had multiple games where we were having to turn away people from the gates because we were over our 10k capacity, yea, I think we will be fine.

This expansion only put our capacity a little over 15k. We will hit 15k people for a few games this year. I would be willing to put money on it.

If we were putting 10k in the stands playing crap FCS competition which brought less than 50 visiting fans, we will get to 15k vs real competition.

However, next year when phase 2 is done and our capacity is over 21k, then I would concede that you won't see a sold out crowd for a while.

15k won't be a problem though.

RE: An update on Coastal's Stadium Expansion
I expected 3 types of responses to this latest video of our expansion. So far we are 2 posts in, and I've seen 2 of the expected responses. Let's see how long it takes to get to the 3rd one I'm expecting....

1. "Congratulations"
2. "Yea but will you ever fill it?"
3. Xxxxxx - it is coming, I know it.

Add a 4th option:

4. I don't care what your stadium looks like as long as I can reasonably get a ticket to watch [App State] battle you.

Like the wrap around seating in the endzone. It is exactly what App should do in front of the new North Endzone building.

Doesn't seem like anything occurs with any expediency in Boone. I commend Coastal for that.

2 is a perfectly reasonable question. I imagine if Coastal is successful this season they will be rewarded with more exposure on national TV next season which should help with perception. The entire state of South Carolina, no matter what part you go to, seems to be red or orange.

Double, triple, or even quadruple yours and everyone elses donation, then maybe things might move at a pace that would be acceptable to you.

Think $10 would do it? I doubt that money is the sole issue in speed of movement. Coastal had a vision, developed a plan, and achieved their goal through measured steps to achieve said goal; that was the intent of my comment.

Not to garner a snarky remark about funding levels. Isn't exactly a blue collar comment, considering the area and the mindset App says it is, i'm disappointed.
Seems you may be better off with the wine and cheese crowd up in Chapel Hill.

Despite your weak Tar Heel comment, coming from you I'm a bit disappointed you couldn't do any better, I think money has a lot to do with it, despite what you say.

Back to the Tar Heel comment, you're barking up the wrong tree with me.

RE: An update on Coastal's Stadium Expansion
Different situation, though. NC stretches a lot farther East and a lot farther west, with twice the number of ACC/SEC schools and over twice the population. Coastal has been playing football less than 20 years. App and ECU have been playing close to 100, allowing time to build generations of loyal fans.

Im impressed with Coastal. They're a fast riser and will build a fanbase with wins... I used to live in Indiana, where historically, the Hoosiers were the number one interest by far, followed by Purdue, and third with Notre Dame. Butler was barely a blip on the radar. Now, they're number three, at least in the largest city (by far) in the state because they've been winning like crazy since 2000, especially since their runs to the NC games... Coastal will get noticed in their corner of the world in the same way of they are a big winner.

Edit: This comment was intended to reply to Ericsaid, who commented:

What is Coastal doing in regards to parking for a capacity crowd? Are parking lots being built along with the expansion, ready from day one? Being familiar with your space, I would think you would have to go off campus and maybe have transportation.

Then you aren't familiar with our space. There is PLENTY of on campus parking for a 15k game day crowd. And when the stadium is expanded to >21k next year, if we were to sell that out (which in my opinion would require hosting a P5), there would still be sufficient parking on campus. Students always ***** about parking (I was one that did). But the parking is there if you're willing to just walk a little bit from one end of campus to the other).

Also, remember that time you vehemently declared our capacity would be 16k when it was all done?

Still on track for >21k for the 2018 season.

You may be right about the parking but I just can't see it. You have Quail Creek on one side, a cemetary on one side, 501 and commercial property on the others. If you have NC State there, it will be a sell out plus. I have seen the campus taken up with todays parking, far less than than the future crowds. Just curious is all I'm saying.

We used to use parking lots at the technical college next door and I'm sure we would use for overflow as well if necessary.

The campus is walkable but there are shuttles that can take people from the parking lots to the stadium and back.

I've also heard talk of the possibility to add a parking garage but there is some opposition so it may not happen.

Here is our football parking map, doesn't include the tech college.

Gillin told me he doesn't see the need to building more seats until we begin selling more season tickets. I don'r necessarily agree with this since imo we need seats to for some of the teams we're bringing in. There will be a much bigger demand for tickets for the ECU game than Miami or WF.

We own quail creek, so parking at the clubhouse here is open for us. There is a massive parking lot right next to 501 as you enter campus on the right if you turn onto campus from 501. Worst case there is also parking at the science scented across 501 and we have a shuttle that gets you across 501 back to main campus. We also have HGTC that borders our campus.

It would be fine.

There is also a huge dirt lot across the street on 501, that my guess is will be utilized for 2018. Along with field the ROTC uses next to the Science Center.

For anyone not familiar with CCU. Basically every parking lot in Yellow and across University Boulevard has been newly built in the last couple of years. Parking will not be an issue, we actually have a pretty decent shuttle system in place.
